Shocks and ZW7 Premium suspension

Recommended Posts

My buddy has an 03 Suburban with the ZW7 Premium suspension package with about 150,000 miles and he wanted new shocks. But when he found out the rears for that are about $350 each, he asked what if we just changed the fronts. I know, we can put Bilstein shocks on the rear and change the springs, but he want the oem-style suspension (i.e. comfort, not stiff).

So, if we just put Monroe's or KYB's on the front, would there be much difference? Do the rear nivomat shocks wear out like regular shocks, or are the longer lasting?

If they are original shocks I'd recommend replacement no matter what. I got little over 60K miles and mine weren't "bad" but were getting tired. I only have experience with the shocks that I put on mine (see sig), I like a stiff suspension but I don't think they are overly stiff. Check out the Monroe website and put in what you have and they will have all kinds of options dependent on what you are looking for (stiff, soft, etc).

Yeah, I know the oem shocks generally don't last long, however, I have the originals on my 03 Sierra with over 100,000 and they are still pretty good.

I guess what I am trying to find out is whether the special rear shocks on the ZW7 suspensions will last longer than a normal oem shock.

Also, I am trying to find out if the rears last longer, is it worth just replacing the fronts. This is a question specifically for the ZW7 Premium suspension.

Sorry, I don't have ZW7. Hope you can find an answer.
