Cab intrusion after a component failure like that is unacceptable but then again the new Dodges (1500s, the HD trucks don't get tested) have crappy crash test results so I can't say I'm surprised.

it dented in. It didn't penetrate. There's a dent about 2" high under the drovers seat. Damn thing threw my coffee across the truck. That's what I was pissed about

I haven't driven a Ford lately, but the company I worked for back in 1979 bought a new F-350, I guess they called it a bobtail. It had a special flat dump bed installed for dumping plaster sand at construction sites.

I loved that truck. It had a gas motor with a manual trans and it really did its job.

I remember one time, I was at least 1,000 lbs over the weight limit for the tires we had on it and got a ticket at the scales. I drove the truck like that for about 70 miles. It didn't even faze it.

It was very dependable and had lots of power. I would load it down with 6,000 lbs of materials and also fill the passenger side of the cab up and the mud flaps were almost dragging on the ground.

I can't say enough about that truck, I wish they were all made that good.

By the way you guys talk, they don't make em like that anymore.

They certainly don't. I grew up in a pro Ford family and we had a bunch of good ones. The 69 F350 Tow truck was one of them, my old man bought it new for his service station. At 314,000 miles on the original 360 FE it was running on 6 cylinders so we rebuilt the engine and made it a 390. The 72 Camper Special F-250 we had was awesome too. The original 390 was strong but the 428 we built for it was stronger. Damn that truck would pull, never had any problems whatsoever. Also had a host of Bronco's and E350 box vans with 460's. Also had a 72 F500 that was always overloaded and always got the job done. My folks have a 96 F250 Powerstroke, 269,000 miles and still runs great. And even though its not a truck my Grandad's old 68 Mustang with a 302 V8 is still running strong at 169,000 miles.

However having said all that I have been less than impressed with a friends 03, 05, 08, and 2010 F150's. The 5.4 in a pickup just feels like a gutless pig to me every time I drive one. My brother in-law works H.V.A.C. and his old job had all G.M. trucks and vans. His had a 6.0 with 275,000 miles and ran great. His new job they are running all Fords and according to him they are in the shop more. He has only been at the company a few months and he has had to take his Ford work van in for service concerns.

Before I bought my Gimmy I looked at a lot of Fords, I wanted to like them but was just turned off and underwhelmed every time I drove one. Just my two cents but at this point I am a G.M. convert for sure with trucks.

My boss's truck is a 2010 f-350 v10 it gets 9.1mpg empty and 7mpg pulling the trailer. It rides like crap, horrible bump steer, navigation unit broke 4 times and ford had to buy the nav unit back from him and put a normal radio in. tie rods, balljoints front wheel bearings were all shot at 25,000 miles. A front and rear caliper froze up in the past few months, theirs probably more that im forggeting. Almost have him talked into a 3500hd duramax.

I have had both the GMT900 Z-71 with a 5.3 and 3.73:1 Gears and I now have a 2008 Ford F150 Supercrew with the 5.4 and I think 3.55:1 Gears. I honestly like the Ford much better, the Chevy would whip the Ford's ass in a drag race but the Ford will and does out pull that Chevy anyday and twice on Sunday. The Ford has a much more rigid feel to it, the interior doesn't seem as cheap (doesn't collect lint either). My Chevy burned about 1 quart of oil per 1000 miles my Ford doesn't burn a drop. My Chevy made 11 trips to the dealer in under 40,000 miles. My Ford has made 0 so far in 20,000 miles. Was I unluck with the Chevy? maybe. Am I just lucky with my particular Ford? Maybe. Will I buy another Chevy over a Ford? Nope
