2500 fuel tank in a 1500

Recommended Posts

No dice on the Titan Tanks. I called and they don't make anything for gas motors. Transfer Tank out of Chico, CA doesn't either and their tech told me emissions regulations are enough to dissuade them from making one. Headed to the salvage yard now to see if I can just squeeze a 2500 one in their of maybe move some stuff around to put one ont he other side.

Makes me miss my first truck when I was 16, 1988 F-150 with dual tanks. That thing would go forever.

What about the 36 gallon tank that comes with the 1500 Long Bed? I don't know the dimensions, but this would seem like a better way to go IMO. I have a Long Box, and the bigger tank is a good thing to have.

Good info to have. I was unaware that the long beds came with the 36 gallon tank. The other thing I was thinking, and this may be way overkill, but if it doesn't fit I wonder if you could cut a 36 gallon tank and plastiweld it back together to fit the available space.

I would get with a custom shop and see about making one. I have a gear head buddy who had a 5 gallon fuel cell built for his drag car at a custom TIG shop. It wasn't cheap (300ish bucks) but it was what he needed. The custom shop would be able to build something to fit your application directly, not fitting your application to the product.

If you do grab a tank from a salvage yard, I'd get the pump/sending unit also as your existing one may not work correctly due to the depth of the tank. I'd think the sending wires would be pretty similar to what you have already and should splice nicely if you have to. I do see problems getting it to fit because I think the 2500's had a taller frame rail, not sure though. Length of course is the obvious problem going into a 1500 Crew/Shorty bed. Get the tape measure out and start hitting the junk yards! Good luck!

It desired tank fits with correct brackets.

Then any used tank could be purchased from a salvage yard. A tad cheaper this way.

I would be concerned with the placement of holding brackets. I don't have a clue. The two trucks have different driveshafts and exhaust. The added weight might do something. Do they both have the same fuel pump?

Let us know if you do get this done.
