RC 2" leveling kit question......

Recommended Posts

So I just got my Rough Country 2" leveling kit today for my '09 Sierra. I'm looking at the kit and am wondering, why do they call this a 2" kit? The spacers themselves are only about 1" in thickness.

Call it a dumb question, but I am curious......

Thanks.

I just installed the same kit and wondered about that to. The kit raised mine exactly 2" I think its a combination of the spacer and the fact it puts the shock at a slighty different angle that gains the full 2" gain.

Yep, because of the suspension geometry, a 1" spacer will raise it 2". No need to worry!

EXACTLY..........install it and enjoy. Not hard to install at all. I wondered the same thing when I measured my blocks when I got the kit. Was impressed after install, exactly 2" in lift on the front end.

I've read the instruction online for the installation of the 2" leveling kit. Do I really have to make a new alignment for the front axle?

Yes. You must get a front end alignment soon after installing.

Also, there is an easier installation method than the instructions that come with the kit. Try this:

Thanks!

I think I'll go with the Rough Country kit as well. It looks much easier than what I've seen in the internet. There the spacer were installed on top of the spring. Also there was mentioned that you have to cut some bolts. I don't like to cut bolts (stuts).

If you have someone to help you only need to touch three bolts on each side. Unbolt the sway bar and the two bolts where the spacer goes. Then one of you pushes down on the front hub and push against the side of the strut assembly while the other one aligns the holes and inserts the bolt. Bolt everything back up and get an alignment as soon as you can. Your truck should still drive straight and smooth but your toe adjustment will be off and your tires will wear heavy on the edge. Also make sure you re torque all the bolts after 500 miles which reminds me I'm do to check mine.

I have a 2" RC kit and I got the alignment, and you are correct, the toe was way off. I retorqued my bolts after 500 miles and couple bolts definitely needs the retorque. I was wondering if I should get another alignment? My truck drives straight now, but the wheel is definitely turned a little to the left.

I dont have to hold it left, it stays turned a little left almost like it's the center point. Do you know if this is an alignment issue, or maybe its because I changed to LT285/70/17 tires and they are bigger and heavier?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

If it drives straight and you don't have to hold the wheel then it sounds like they didn't have your wheel straight when they did the alignment. Take it back and tell them they need to recenter your wheel.
