i got a ticket(first one i ever got) for "display of current tabs"(not sure what that means)and for parking the wrong way on the street.if current tabs mean past due registration i already paid my registration but i have to get it smogged to get the stickers. so is there anything i can do to not have to pay this ridiculous ticket?

most the time i think cops are so bored they have to drive around an look for cars each one with little problems...

Parking the wrong way on the street is a pet peeve of most cops and a lot of people as well. The key to not getting a ticket is not attracting attention to yourself. In this day and age of less tax revenue and more cuts, city, county, and state leaders are asking Law Enforcement to step up citation writting. Don't be mad at the cops, they are just doing their job. A break of the law is a break of the law, no matter how silly it may seem. Gotta fess up and pay.

I agree rockysierra. I have very few tickets in my life and none of them larger than a seat belt ticket. They are easy to avoid if you simply follow the rules. Even my wife tells me I drive like a grampa, but I have never had a speeding ticket either.

It is the truth that law enforcement is instructed to give tickets that bring in $$$$. They make more money writing petty tickets than bringing in a criminal (which just costs us money). It's just the way it is. The could arrest someone every 2 minutes if they wanted to but it is better for the "overall income" to write tickets.

I've seen crack heads selling dope on the corner and the cop is waiting for the parking meter to expire to write a ticket. The guy that gets the ticket will likely pay the ticket and get on with his life. The crackhead would get arrested and live off the system for a minimum of 3 months, if not the rest of his life.

There is even more involved down the line, but it gets into unions and politics, so I won't go there..........

If your registration is paid and current, then it's $17 to the autocratic DMV for a replacement sticker; no smog check required. As far as parking incorrectly, I agree with what Rocky wrote. That said, I have to give kudos to Chico PD, as they will give a warning whenever possible. As long as they don't get any attitude in return for that courtesy, it stays that way. Laudable, considering the City of Chico and County of Butte are experiencing more than their fair share of revenue shortages.

And as for swiping stickers off plates.....I never could understand why the thief just doesn't take the whole plate, as that takes less time than peeling the sticker off the plate. They can discard the stolen plate once they get the reg tag on the desired plate. Ooops, just occurred to me that maybe these dipweeds don't know what a screwdriver is or how to use it (maybe they should start by running with it pointed upward).

I get the parking the wrong way issue but if he ran my plates an saw it was paid and still cited me for it jus means he is a dick head which makes me think he is ...well a dick head. But ya my registration is all paid up just waiting to get a smog test done.the reg expired in nov '11 BUT I got it registered in my name in November which gave me an extra month so it expired dec '11 ..

Imagine the audacity some people have for actually doing their jobs... FYI, most agencies have a traffic enforcement division that does just that.

Not an easy job being a cop when it comes to public perception. I know if your seen hanging out at the local gas station drinking a cup of coffee you hear "is that all you got to do, it must be nice to have a job like that". In the event you leave the gas station and go stop a few cars then your a prick for that, just can't win for losing lol.

Law Enforcement is like a utility like water or electric, not many have a care in the world about it until they need it, what if it wasn't there? You ever flip a light switch when the powers off or turn on the water when it's off, it's what we're used to and we just always figure it's there. I like the folks that call and complain about a cop driving to fast, of course unless the cops are going to their house then they call and complain asking whats taking them so long lol. I also love the ones that complain that there's to many cops, of course until they come home and their doors been kicked open and they've been burglarized, or their kid is missing then they want 50 cops, 14 detectives and 3 CSI labs set up lol!

All it takes is a few guys who strap on a gun and a badge to turn into superman to make us all look bad and Lord knows there's plenty of them. However there's alot of good ones to, I've always said being a good cop requires 95% common sense and treat people like you want to be treated. I starting working as a reserve officer in 1994 then went full time in 1998 and still hanging in there, spent 6 years as police chief. I have seen some pricks in uniform and never wanted a reputation like that.

I'm not ragging or preaching to you Joey. I understand your concern nobody likes to pay tickets they ain't cheap, if everything checks out ok on your registration and you can prove it chances are they'll throw that one out (they would here). The parking issue who knows they kinda got ya there, something else to think about and not sure how it works out there but I know we've had some insurance companies not cover a claim when somebodies vehicle has gotten hit just because it was improperly parked, that would suck.

Sorry for the long winded post :-)!

i understand the duties of law enforcement but it just kinda makes me laugh and pissed at the same time that in the one day that i had to jump start my other truck(which is why it was parked the opposite direction)it only took 1 day for a bored local to slap it with a ticket right in front of home..i mean really theres one parking space my girlfriend uses so i have to park acrss the house..my dad was a sheriff for a long time so i come from a cop environment.and i respect cops.it gets hard when they dont me but i try to be nice.it is the first ticket i have ever gotten since i got my driver license an i pride myself on that. geuss the first is the worst...dont get me wrong i love it when i get pulled over by a cool cop cause i never expect him to be so nice.but it bugs me i already paid the reg its just pending smog.i admit i was in the wrong for parking the wrong way but i was jump starting my other truck.my truck that got a ticket didnt even have a battery in it cause i had to end up swapping.still my fault i guess

I can tell ya you wouldn't have gotten a ticket for either offense here maybe a written warning but we live in a rural community in Indiana it might be different out there. I would've thought the guy could've cut you a break and done the same thing with just warning right or wrong. I know I get aggravated at a few guys around here that just want to chase tail lights when theirs some guy selling drugs on the sidewalk they just flew by. I try to prioritize things and an equipment violation doesn't rate real high on my list lol. I know some think the departments get rich off of writing tickets, I will say around here that's not true. On a $125.00 ticket we see $3.00 of it the rest goes to the state and the county.

Ya, but who pays your wages, fuel, car, union dues, and pension? We (the state or county) do.
