Hi Folks. I'm a new member. What a great fourm.

I was reading about Shaners problem with his transfer. Guess what mine was doing the same thing so off to the local GM dealer I go. I have 32000 miles on the truck and love it. Well they replaced the drive motor(nope) they replace a modual (nope) Then they scared me and said they were going to drop the transfer out and see if they could find something wrong. Thats when I got scared as the dealership lets say has a service history. I changed the oil the day before the truck was due to go into the shop as I hoped to find everything the same when I got it back. Guess what? I found a bad universal. (real bad) So as diplomatically as I could I mentioned that mabey they should check the back universal before they dropped the transfer. Guess what they discovered it was bad. THEIR GOOD! They had to order the universal and gave me a car to drive. God do I miss my truck. I sure hope the universal takes care of the problem.

Good Luck Maxman and welcome to the forum.  I hope the U-joint fixes the problem for you.

 

My transfer case sat in pieces on the shop floor with them swapping new parts in and out and they couldn't fix it.  They were following what the rep and the tech guys in Detroit were telling them to do...  They wanted to replace the entire unit rightt off the bat, but GM said NO.

 

Finally GM gave in and had a new case sent overnight.  The truck has been fine ever since...

Well the new u-joints did'nt do the trick. Now my transfer is disassembled and waiting for a basket full of parts. Well could be worse the warranty could be up. I guess the transfer was in bad shape. The shop foreman told me that it wouldn't have been long and it would have come apart. Hope it gets fixed right.
