Uninstalling a leveling kit

Recommended Posts

When I bought my '99 Sierra, it came with a Torsion key leveling kit installed. While I like the stance when the truck is empty, I frequently haul heavy loads and when I do this the rear ends up being lower than the front and the lights are aimed incorrectly. Since I haul loads frequently, I would like to restore the original ride stance but am unsure of the best way to do this. Can I adjust the leveling torsion keys to get back to the original height, or am I going to need to get different keys and uninstall the leveling kit ones. The kit also has the shock height adjuster brackets so I believe I will need to remove them after making the change, but am not positive.

If I do have to do an uninstall, are there any things to watch for?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

TIA,

Jay

I wouldnt say you have to uninstall them, try backing the adjustment bolt out about 4-5 complete turns on both sides just make sure the index key does not contact the top of the square bolt where the bolts runs through. Yes you will have to remove the shock extensions and most likely have to get a front end alighment.

You don't need to uninstall. All you have to do is adjust the torsion bolts for a lower stance. Make sure you turn equal turns on both sides. You can lower about 1-2" if you like without issue but don't forget to get a front end alignment

Thanks Guys, I'll be crawling under the truck this week and seeing about adjusting the keys. Hopefully there will be no surprises!
