silverado_lover
larger filter = more filter media = longer oil change intervals. This made me chuckle...15 minutes of your time every few months too much to ask for?
pm26
People need to stop complaining about the filter location. This is my second GM truck with the filter in that spot and I've never given it a second's thought. Buy a damn cup wrench to fit the filter and move on. After having to change oil filters for 7 years on a 1992 Mazda Protege, my truck oil filter is super easy to remove and install. That Protege filter access was a nightmare. You had to use a high garage lift and shove your entire arm to rear the filter at the back of the engine with only inches between the firewall and the filter. And there was always a hot exhaust pipe in the way. There was no way to get to it from above. You could not use a cap wrench on it because there was not enough space. Actually where I go they take 45 minutes and they do what they are supposed to, lube everything, do an nice inspection, even lube my doors, hood hinges, and take time to talk with me about if I have any concerns. I will never go back to a dealer again for an oil change, or a jiffy lube.
BlackZ71Silverado
If anyone is having "trouble" getting at the filter, you are probably using an old school filter wrench, that's the problem. You need to get yourself one of these : .........very easy to change the filter with the proper tools.

Ryan00TJ
My strap filter wrench fits easily around the filter? Maybe others are using a larger band strap wrench? I think the filter is very easy to change in the position it is in. I've been doing it since 02 as my LS1's filter was in the same location. I've always used the largest filter for my vehicle's as long as the specs met the factory filter. Those have all been modded with no warranty, so the Sierra is going to continue using the small factory filter till GM spec's another.

whizbanger1
I think the thing people fail to understand is that it may be a bigger filter, but thats only part of the equation. There is also filtration efficiency ratings, flow, pressure drop across the filter, bypass setting, etc. Look at the actual filtration specs. You'd be surprised many of the bigger filters are actually less efficient that the small ones. I guess what I mean is there is more to oil filtration than "it fits." amc31b
Yup, right you are sir! It isnt as simple as "if the filter screws on and fits, it must work the same". That is probably why the pf-63 isn't listed as an interchange part yet.

Just put a bigger filter cause it fits is the same mentality as if you changed your oil because its no longer "gold colored". I use stock filter on my truck and go a good 10,000kms on synthetic oil (still overkill for the oil) and I tell you I've cut it open a few times, I'm happy with that filter. The OLM still has life left when I change it as well. So im ok for warrenty work if need be.
