New Shocks?

Recommended Posts

Anybody changed out there shocks on there HD? I have an 01 crew cab with the t-bars cranked up, the ride could defenately be just a tad bit smoother! I was thinking of going with either the Rancho RS9000X or the Pro Comp MX6 shocks but have no idea how to choose between the two. What are the differences and which one is a better choice????

I've had the Rancho's in a previous truck...their good shocks.  Not a big fan of rancho, but they were highly recommended and served my purpose.  I haven't heard about the MX6's but I can't immagine them being as well built as rancho.....just from previous experience with pro-comps other suspension products.  I would recommend the bilsteins if you are putting money into new shocks...we all know they are A+

Our stock shocks are not Bilsteins  , whatever they are they are garbage, tenneco I believe. The rancho's are good, the Pro Comps are supposed to be better, they are gas monotube adjustable.

I had 9000's on my last truck and they were a pain the *ss to change the level.

I just (yesterday) put a set of Bilstein 5100's on my truck. They are the silver/zinc plated ones for lifted trucks. What a difference. The truck now rides so smooth. Way better than stock, and very noticeably better than the Fabtechs I had. They are great!! :thumb:  :thumb:  They were not cheap though, $103 each    :fume:

Good Luck

The Z71 shocks are tennecos (monroe).  They are garbage.  I added bilstein HD shocks ($49.99 each) to my 1500.  One of the best mods i have done

Id add another vote for bilsteins

I have the Rancho 9000x on my HD, and the difference is astounding. This is my 3rd set of the 9000 series -- they've been on my previous 2 trucks as well. The shocks are great except for one thing; over time, the adjusters freeze up. In all instances I've been able to get my local 4wd center to swap them, under warranty, for new units but it can be a PITA to have to change a shock every few years.  :D

These particular Bilsteins are only available through RCD. They are specially made for them. I called Bilstein and they will not sell to anybody but RCD. For the longest time RCD was only selling them with their kits. Now they will sell them seperately, but you have to get them through any RCD dealer.

These are the part numbers:

Front: BE5-6135-T5

Rear:  BE5-6134-T5

These are for their 6" lift kits, they are silver/zinc plated. I will post pics later :thumb:
