Helped my father in law move this to his house. Thing weighed a ton. He had it mounted to some 2x6s with casters on the bottom so we could roll it up ramps. Wasnt to bad of a job. Wonder if his S-10 could have handled it?

A friend of mine brought home a massive upright compressor once in his Sonoma, headlights pointing toward the sky. His wife is an awesome cook and I got suckered into helping unload it with the promise of dinner after (not having any idea how big this thing was). I got to his house before he did and when he pulled in I about died. This thing was giant! I asked how it was loaded and he replied they had used a forklift. Needless to say, we didn't have one of those at his house. After much thinking we did the second most absurd thing I've ever done unloading a truck- we pulled the tailgate off, backed up to a big tree, pushed the compressor against it and wrapped it around the tree with a big, stout recovery strap. His wife pulled the truck out as we each held an end of the strap and we very slowly released tension in the strap to let the compressor slide down to the ground.

My wife was watching us unload it and she was ready to dial 911. The wheels turned and it almost drove off the ramps. My father in law was on the ground guiding it and I was in the bed with a tow strap slowly lowering it down. Got it down pretty easy but it was scary and I was sore the next morning (shoulders)

Yes... I hauled a lot more than that w/ my 82 S15 2.8L V6. I did some crazy hauling/pulling with that truck.

I worked at menards for a few yrs while in college and seen some crazy things. One guy with an early 80's S-10 used to come in every friday to pickup 40-50 cinder blocks (the large ones) and 10-20 (50lb) bags of morter mix. Did that for about 3 months straight. He was building a shop. To this day I do not know how that truck survived.

I once had an 87 S10 that I hauled just about everything with. I had it loaded with firewood, stuck in freshly graded slick red clay at the bottom of a hill (it started raining while we were loading) and I had to get a D-7 Dozer to pull me back up the hill. I also towed a 4000lb boat to the lake and back (80 miles round trip) and towed a MF 235 tractor on a trailer about 30 miles each way once. That truck made it to 285K miles with just a clutch, clutch fan, and radiator replacement

I certainly thank God that I wasn't injured or the cause of others injuries, and I would never dream of attempting it again. There is no substitute for using the proper tow vehicle.

The S10 would have needed air bags to supt the weight. Other than that, the 4.3 in my 2000 S-10 had plenty of power and low-end torque. I towed the (4000#) trailer pictured below with that truck with no problem. I went to my current truck for the room and longer wheel base (I don't like messing with a WDH). I had to use the WDH with the S-10 or the front wheels would skid all over the place in a panic stop........ wet my pants a few times..... WDH hitch cured that but putting the thing on & off killed my back..........then I bought the Silverado..

Used to have an 04 Sonoma. Since it was the crew cab with an extremely short bed (with cap) I figured if it fits (& sometimes it didn't) I would haul it. The payload on that truck was only a little less than the Sierra. Tough little truck, horrible highway mpg. I traded up since I needed extra tow capacity, 5200lbs just wasn't quite enough.

I've read the MPG comments before. I got 18MPG towing that trailer (avg over 10K miles). I never drove it non-towing but I have to think that it got 20-22.

I don't know Wayne my old 2000 4.3 s10 reg cab SB 4x4 got at it's best and only one time 21 MPG's mostly averaged 16 on the highway and when i used to haul horse trailers to Nebraska with it i only could get 11-12.

Pulled a header trailer with 8 row Deere corn head with my '90. 65 on the blacktop in 3rd gear. Never overheated, thanks to the 4:10s. That truck can do anything, and go anywhere. A family friend of ours comes out to cut firewood a lot, '94 Chevy. Fills the bed until he can't put anymore without it rolling off, then loads up the trailer as well. Rear suspension is usually completely bottomed out, he's done it 100s of times and the truck just doesn't care.
