Need a few quick answers...

Recommended Posts

Im planning on spending the entire evening with my truck... Ive already bought my oil and filter and a nice new bottle of Jack and some Cokes... (those mix quite well FYI!!! ) Anyway... Im also planning on replacing and indexing (why not?) my plugs and replacing my fuel filter (Im at 27k miles so what the heck, ya know?) Anywho, that leads me to my questions: Whats the torque specs for the plugs and where exactly is the fuel filter??? (so i dont have to crawl under and search!) Thanks in advance, HoMe-BoYz

Sparkplug torque is 11 foot pounds or 132 inch pounds if you torque wrench reads that way.  This torque is off the engine torque specification sheet as quoted on GM's CD.

Note:  These heads are aluminum.  Do not pull the plugs until the heads are cold.  There is a danger of pulling the threads out of the head if you try to remove the plugs when they are hot.

Yeah, I know about all that, but thanks!! And I wasnt gonna do it anyway until I was SURE of the torque spec... 11 lbs sounds about right to me... Ill take your word for it

Anywho... The main thing I wantd to know was the location of the fuel filter... Did it all last-night (minus the plugs) in about 30 mins. Thanks for all your help guys!

If you didn't get the plugs done yet don't forget to put a light coat of antiseize on the threads. Steel and aluminum don't go well together. You can pick up some at the local parts store. Oh and for anyone else that reads this, I didn't get to check the filter change part lately but the last time I read it, there was no size of the wrench's. I did mine last night and the filter is 13/16" and the line nut size is 5/8", remember to use a flare nut wrench also.

A hint for antiseize, we use to use milk of magnesia on the hot section bolts in the General Electric J79 turbojet engine that was in the F-4 Phantom,(I'm in the Air Force). All ya do is put it on the threads and let it dry. Then just install the bolt, or in this case the spark plug. Just a UBI for ya. :D

I decided not to change them afterall... I pulled one of mine out and it was fine.. If it aint broke dont fix it right??? ill wait another 10k miles and then do it just for the heck of it... Not like it was really going to be a performance upgrade anyway... lol

BTW, cool information Black02Silverado...  :thumb:
