Castech Cylinder Heads

Whew. Just pulled the valve covers and everything looked good. I found a couple of hose clamps that were a little loose and seemed to be leaking a little. Expected the worst, but as often the case, it was a simple fix.

 

Glad to hear that it was something simple. That's often the case.

For 03GMC5.3 or anyone else that knows:

 

What's the name of the company in Texas that sold you the repaired heads? I went through this same thing about your same timeframe but replaced my heads with a pair of aftermarket DART stage 1's. Still got the old ones and looking to get some $$$ from the old ones so maybe that company will buy them from me.

 

Second question: Your headers are shorties. Did you notice any great performance improvement when you put them on? At what rpm range did you get any performance improvement. Do you think they were worth the money for shorties? Research is telling that long tubes are best but they're out of my price range right now, especially with having to redo the exhaust piping. I'm looking at a set of Banks Torque Tubes but they're shorties and I don't know if they're worth it.

hey guys havnt been on here in a while but came across my old thread figured i would answer a few questions for you. as for the shorties they were pacesetters and i think they were worth the $200 but hard to tell because the motor felt better all around after the cylinder head swap i would say if you want headers and budget is tight go for it. i did however find a smoking deal on a set of stainless works long tubes and with a tune they are hands down better but the $1200 price tag is rediculous. i found them on ebay used for $400 with y pipe and the guy who i bought them from actually bought my shorties for $150 as they fit his project better. so ya i had to jump on that. currently my setup is ported throttle body spectre intake ported stock cylinder heads stainless works long tubes high flow cats custom dual exhaust with magnaflow muffler and resonator as the long tubes made it very loud, and a custom data log tune from BlackBear performance. also a built 4l60e to hold up to 400hp. also a trucool max 40k. truck is fun to drive but want more lol as usual.hopefully building a new motor soon with flat top pistons and a mild cam. hopefully this helps some people out feel free to ask any more questions you have i will try to get back on here sooner and answer them.
