Do I Have A Locking Differential?

Recommended Posts

The G80 is just crappy in general. They don't lock up reliably. I have whatever came from the factory for oil. I don't think synthetic will make much difference.

That aside, maybe it was a typo but there wasn't a Rubicon in 2002 I don't think. Thought the first year was 2003 and the first year was an air locker.

Yep. You are right about the year. I don't recall a compressor for the lockers, but I didn't do a lot of work on the vehicle myself. We bought the Ruby in August 2002 when I was transferred from Greenville Texas to Salt Lake City Utah. We wore it out until I was again transferred to MD in 07, where the jeepin ain't the same but it was the only one around. Sold it in 08. Thanks

Hit the brake and gas. That'll tell ya

How will that tell you?

The old trick for getting more traction with an open differential is to engage the parking brake lightly to send power to both wheels. I've used it many times to get traction in the old cars without LSD that I drove years ago.
