Exhaust Time!

Recommended Posts

Ok, I cant seem to make up my mind on which exhaust I want to go with. I am hoping that your feedback will help me finally make a decision! Here is what I have in mind:

The Gibson "ExtremeDual" system (pn:5009), which I really cant find any specs on but hear is great or the Flowmaster 50 Series "Big Block II" muffler, which leads to another big decision, dual or single outlet???

Im stumped, any feedback would be greatly appreciated! :puke:

I have the 6.0 with dual in dual out magnaflow......I don't like it. Sounds airy, and to me is just not loud enough.  I went to the local flowmaster guy in town and he said i would see no gains from what i currently have by going with the big block flowmaster 50 series dual in dual out....he did say i would have more resonance in the cab than i cared for.  I am ripping my whole deal off and going with 2 offset in offset out 40 series flowmasters.  A few guys have them and seem pleased.  Just my two cents.

I had a 50 series big block on my 6.0 crew cab for about a month.  It was sooooooo loud.  I even had 2 walker resonators installed to quiet it down but it was still too loud to drive for any length of time.  I put the stock muffler back on for now.

I reently heard the Flowmaster 50 series SUV mufflers on a friends truck (unfortunantly its a ford....sad) and it actually sounded pretty darn good. I cant seem to find a 50 SUV that has dual 3" inlets though, I was told to go with the 50 series big block II's if I want to match the 3" inlets. Any one know how those sound into comparison to the 50 SUV, I would think it would be the same. 70 series to quiet and the 40's a tad bit to loud. :chevy:

Still looking into the Gibson idea, once again Istill cannot find any good info on the Gibson! Anyone know if the Gibson muffler has dual inlets or if they use a "Y" pipe into a single inlet??

Thanks again for the help, great stuff!! :thumb:

The quest continues, I wanted to go with dual 2.5's out the back but I just spoke to the local shop who is going to be doing my work and they are telling me that if I do duals I will lose performance! They recomend a single 3" pipe out the side.

Is that true reguarding duals????

Also, for a flowmaster 50 series & installation with a custom mandrel bent pipe and tip the want $525!  :chevy: That seems to me a little pricey! Am I wrong???

I lost a little low end. Not enough to make a difference. I did gain though in mid to high end. Just buy your flows and have a custom system done with a balance pipe. Probably be half the price. :chevy: Flowmaste does make a direct replacement muffler for the HD now also. Its a 2.75" dual in/ 2.5" dual out. part number is 527504.

If you go with a dual in/out muffler you dont need a balance pipe. What a balance pipe or H-pipe is, is a pipe that connects the right side exhaust pipe to the left side. So the tubes are of equal length for the exhaust pulses, as they exit out the rear. D@mn, that probably just confused you. But, I am sure somebody else can explain it better. Good luck!!

I wouldnt buy gibson if i were you. I think they are a waste of money but that is just my opinion.  I would go with flowmaster exhaust.  But i would just go with the go old redneck way of straight pipes.  Cheap but dont know how good it is on your engine.
