Idea To Improve Ball Joint Geometry After Leveling Kit

Recommended Posts

I installed my RC leveling kit today and beforehand I read all about the upper BJ issues that this might cause. When looking at the angle of the upper control arm before and after the leveling, I was thinking about ways to get the geometry back to normal. Would adding a couple washers on the upper BJ nut improve the geometry at all? I'm trying to wrap my brain around how this would affect anything, if at all. As long as you still had a couple threads showing, their wouldn't be a problem of the nut coming loose. So does anyone think this would do anything or am I looking at this wrong?

Its a bad idea because it will change the effective length of the spindle. Doing this without moving the pivot point of the UCA up by the same amount changes the relationship of the UCA and LCA with will result in changing camber/toe as the suspension cycles.

If you put washers there, you will just move the nut relative to the bolt. The bolts position will not change.

Yeah, the more I thought about it, the more I realized it wouldn't work.

To make it work, I suppose you'd have to add the washers just below the BJ but on top of the spindle. This probably would affect the way the BJ functions.
