i have shady neighbors that enjoy abusing dealer plates...they had a hoopty lot which they quickly sold and now just use the plates for everday use, they will pile of POS vehicles in front of my house and just swap the plates around from day to day to whatever vehicle they feel like driving...really? if i want to put my plate on another vehicle i have to jump through hoops like a monkey then bust out my wallet...its sad how people can break a system... :D

If they have a d plate they have a dealership license. Its not abusing the system, if the cars are in the company name they are fully allowed to do just what they are doing.

My friend's neighbor owns a dealership, and he brings all sorts of vehicles to his house which have the demonstration plate on them.

Your "shady" neijgbors are not breaking the system. If they didn't own a dealership anymore, they would not be able to use their demonstration plates.

You have no idea of what you are talking about. I used to have my dealers license & here in NYS, you had to jump through hoops to get it. I had 2 dealer plates, the insurance for those plates was around $2500 a year, I had to be bonded & your books can looked at anytime by the DMV no questions asked. So, when I spent my money stocking up my lot, if I wanted to drive around some of the cars--you bet your ass I am going to drive around the vehicles that I OWN!

laws change from state to state, its been awhile since i learned vehicle laws...i know these people aren't running a legit business, they only leave at night and both buldings where their hoopty lots were at, are vacant...so unless their selling to vampires i'm pretty sure they aren't really dealers anymore

Years ago I used to work for a used car dealer who had his business in Michigan but purchased 99% of his vehicles in the Chicago. He lived in Chicago area while his brother ran the Michigan business. The vehicles all had Michigan dealer plates on them and every one was owned thru the used car lot, thus he was legal and insured. Lived in Illinois for 25 +yrs and never registered a vehicle there. He, his wife and 2 daughters all drove around with Michigan dealer plates. I know as I carried the new year plates down to them once. They pay for as many plates as they want to buy.

I had my dealers license for 3 years along with a small car lot of 30-35 cars. I didn't have any licensed vehicles of my own for 2.5 of those years, I just drove what I wanted off the lot. Until one day I got busted for towing a trailer with my cummins. In Missouri a dealer plate is for demonstration purposes only (although no one ever follows that law) and I had to end up licensing my ram. 2200 dollars in sales tax later I was back on the road. The crappy part about it was I had to jump through so many hoops to get the license and my insurance was absolutely rediculous. I just couldn't see paying dealers insurance on all my cars and then paying insurance on my truck personally.

hmm, why are you concerned with what other people do?

IMO mind your own business, worry about YOU, unless what they are doing has a direct impact on your life STFU, if you think it's illegal then call the cops, if you don't want to be a rat, then mind yourself and do not concern yourself with what others do..

GAWD this world is just full on nosy busy bodies.

yeah, here in MI you need a storefront, insurance, and at least a 10k line of credit as well as sales tax license to be a dealer, then you have to buy plates as well.... so I would think they have every right to drive around their lot vehicles.

my main bitch issue is that my road is clogged with their unplated hooptys, hell i can't get out of my driveway without going through my yard sometimes...they are exploiting the system, i'm a law major and i know they are, hell even local law enforcement has gotten involved but they don't have time to look into it seeing as i live in a small town where the county polices it...obviously some of you don't see it from my point of view, but thats life i guess

If they are doing that, then call the cops...anything unplated is towable and anything blocking your driveway is definitely towable. Im kinda thinking thats not the truth tho

If they were truly blocking access to his driveway, I'm sure the OP would have called the cops.

I have to agree, we have a house that is across the street from a Junior College, and on their side it is not permit parking, on our side it is (I have to buy a city permit to park in front of my house ($45 per car per year), and when they park in front of my house and/or block my driveway (and it happens quite a bit during special events) I call the 800# for the police parking enforcement and tow services and they are out within 10 minutes to yank that vehicle.

I usually have at least 1/2 dozen towed the first week of school every year.. My irritation is that they have parking for 15,000 students, parking permit is $35 a quarter, last year their enrollment was down according to them by 30% which mean plenty of parking open.

Parking ticket is $240

Tow is $99 for hook up and $250 for impound

one would think they would just pay the $35 and park in the school lots, but they don't..

hell I have even come home from work to find one of these punks has moved my trash cans on trash day onto my lawn, and thus the trash company doesn't collect from them because they are not on the curb and a vehicle is blocking there automated truck arm from reaching them..

its true, i've called the police multiple times...and the crowding will stop for a month or two and then its back to the same old shit...its hard for a police force of maybe 20 guys to go out of their way to write traffic violations when their is more pressing issues like drunk driving and drugs plagueing the area
