Serria Denali Towing

Recommended Posts

Hey i'm new to the forums here. i currently have a 2500 hemi ram. and i am wondering how the 1500 denalis are for towing my trailer is 8600lbs dry has 30/30/30 gal tanks. i think its fully loaded wait is 10k or just over.

got the 2500 to replace an 05 f150 but am wondering if i could go back to a half ton and well the denali is about as nice as they get. any info would be great

that sucks, but thats what i thought. problem is i only tow it a few times a year, and my truck doesn't see alot of use, its not a daily driver. in the summer it can sit for wekks on end with out being used winter even longer. was hoping i could get back to a half ton but if not then so be it

get a 1500 NHT package. they have 10,500# rating and can be optioned out equivalent to a Denali (though i dont see the points in getting all those options for a truck that sits so much... save your money on the options IMO)

Yep :)

I did just that because I wanted selectable 4x4 and you can only get the 3.73's in a truck equipped with the max trailer package :)

thanks for the input. i know my truck sits a bunch but when i drive it, i want a nice truck. i don't want a base model. i will try to findall the specs to my trailer and post those. i know its billed as half ton towable but it seems near the max for half ton towable.

ok so i found all the specs of my trailer

gvwr 8791

hitch 791

axles 5348

unloaded 6139

carrying cap 2652

maybe someone can chime in. if this would be half ton towable

i'd also have 2 dogs, the wife and kids

Your def. in the limits of a 6.2 with the max trailer package.

It can tow a trailer that weighs in 10,500 and the unloaded trailer weight is only 6139. With your max carry or gvwr, your under the 10,500 so it would handle the load just fine.

I towed for years with a 5.3 4-speed 4.10 gears a trailer that weighted in 6500 lbs without issue. Upgraded to a Vmax with a 4-speed and 4.10 gears and the weight was alot easier. I know for a fact that new new 6.2L 6-speed with 3.73 would/will run circles around my old vmax.

Jarod,

The only thing I would suggest may be an issue is the tongue weight once you are all loaded up, including the truck & truck bed. The best thing would be to go weigh your current set up all loaded up, ready to go camping, then try to weigh the truck "unloaded", but with the same amount of gas to get an idea where you stand.

I would guess the NHT crew cab to have around 18-1900lbs payload capacity, so chance are you will be ok, but close to the max payload depending on your tw (tongue weight).

Good luck!

Chris
