Parts Suppliers

Recommended Posts

I was given my grandfather's truck.  Its a 1979 shortbed 4x4.  I would like to replace some of the bodywork due to dents and damage.  I was wondering if there are any good websites that offer replacement panels and the such.  This will become my hunting / camping truck, but it needs some work.  Also, I was wondering are there any places that offer split bench seats for that year?

I'm not sure any of the major parts suppliers have online catalogs, though I'm not sure why...

LMC is good, as are Chevy Duty, and a couple others I can't think of off hand.  JCWhitney probably has body panels, but I don't know if the quality is there.

Welcome to the Forum!

I have a 79 Shortbed 4x4.  I want to upgrade the leaf springs, but I really dont want to lift it more than 2 inches from its stock height.  What I want to know is, what suspension companies offer a direct stock replacement spring or a 2 inch replacement spring for both rear and front?? (ProComp, Superlift, Tuff Country... ) I have found that most offer a block or add-a-leaf for the rear, but I want a complete spring pack.  The stock ones that I have now are weak and sagging, so I want to replace them. Any help would be appreciated.

That's a nice pickup and a good era, I owned a 1978 K5 Blazer until I sold it last Spring for 15 years.

I would scope out JCWhitney.com, they have all of the good stuff and the name brands to fix up your truck, depending upon your trucks needs.

Have a great one!

I have been buying a lot of parts from GM Parts Direct.com and Rock Auto.  You can email GMPD with a parts list and your VIN and they will give you the GM part number.  Then you can check the part number on their website and get the price.  Also, you can use that part number to check the price on Rock Auto's web site.  Rock Auto sells only "wear" parts (mechanical, electrical, etc.) and no body parts.  You will find that Rock Auto has prices slighty lower than GMPD, and they usually use Fed Ex (ground or second day air), so the parts get to you faster for the same price as UPS.

LMC is definitely has higher prices than GMPD or Rock Auto, but I have purchased some small items from them (pedal pad set, etc.)  I did get a nice heater control assembly (the whole thing) for something like $23 from Rock Auto - best deal I ever got on a GM part.  Just make sure your are getting genuine GM parts - doesn't usually cost much more than aftermarket parts (sometimes less), and people who know trucks will value your truck more with genuine GM parts.
