Noise From Rearend While Acelerating

Recommended Posts

I recently removed 2 inch blocks and installed 2 inch shackles. I got a 3 1/2 inch drop.

The shop said the pinion angle was fine. There is no vibration either.

Prior to lowering the truck I had a similar noise but it wasnt as loud. While accelerating I hear a Clicking/Tapping noise coming from the rear ( sounds like driver side rear )

I removed the shoe for the E brake from the back rotor to eleminate a problem with the E brake hardware.

I cannot locate the source of this noise. The Clicking/Tapping noises seems to rapidly go faster as I accelerate faster.

It makes noise weather going straight or turning and accelerating

Its as if there is a thick metal wire wrapped around my drive shaft and banging the body of the truck as it turns ( just an example of the noise i checked high and low under the truck cannot locate the source)

any ideas? would u joints make this noise? pinion angle out of wack make noise?

It did not make this noise on the drive home from the shop

It got signifacntly louder after attempting to cut down the bump stops but they were in bad shape they just ripped out. I dont think its related to the bump stops but I know for a fact it is not bottoming out and causing this noise.. it does it on flat level road just while accelerating. As soon as im off the gas the noise stops.

Very irritating!

on a side note: This noise is not always there. If I have weight in the bed of my truck the noise is constant. If I have 5 people in the cab of my truck the noise is constant as well.

It seems the more weight I have in the truck the more constant the tapping/clicking noise is.

Since you say it is more persistant when you have a load and it also happens on acceleration sounds to me more like a pinion bearing or spider gears. You need to pop the diff cover off and check out the gears.

U-joint can make a clicking sound too so I deffinately start there

I would look at U-joints as well. When you put a load in the truck the U-joint will operate in a different "realm". If the U-joint is starting to seize it can make that kind of noise. Since you lowered the truck, you have changed the "realm" the joint is running in as well, so it may be different now compared to before you lowered it.

What am I looking for when the cover is off?

I drove around all weekend..the noise went away...

next morning it was back....after a days of driving it goes away.....seems to only happen after the truck has been sitting for a while....
