Wheel Hop Rear End Shifting Over Bumps

Recommended Posts

hello all

i have a 02 sierra 4x4 1500 series over the winter i installed bfg all terrain t/a ko over the winter i never noticed the hop due to the sander in my truck but now that its summer i notice over bumps the rear of the truck seems to shift side to side as in theres wheel hop. does anyone know what would cause this? they are 10 ply . would adding another leaf help this?

when was the last time you replaced shocks? Tires arent helping either as they are pretty stiff. Adding another leaf will make it stiffer. if your shocks are shot the " hop" will only be worse with adding a leaf.

Why would you put 10 ply tires on a 1/2 ton? Theres most of your problem as the tires are so stiff there not absorbing any shock on the bumps you hit. What tire pressure are you running, to high of a pressure will give you the bounce try bringing the pressure down to what it says on the drivers door jab. Yes your shocks could be shot if there oem. Get some heavy duty shocks but you may still get the bounce due to the tires.

The factory shocks on these trucks suck (unless you have the Z71 appearance package with the Rancho's). My truck did the same thing, so I replaced the shocks with aftermarket ones from Zone when I did the 2" lift....and it helped a lot. Don't add a leaf, that will make it worse. When your not hauling anything, run about 35-40 psi in your rear tires, and it will help.
