Time for some REAL work on the Sub!!

Recommended Posts

Bought another car for a daily driver ('96 Corvette Collector Edition LT4 6 spd) so I now have the chance to pull the '76 Sub off the road and really work on it.

Here's the plan...let me know what you guys think...

first, there's a little rust forming in the upper rear corners and in the lower front fenders.  I plan to disassemble the rear and grind out the rust, using either fiberglass or welded patch-panels to replace the rusted area, which isn't too big, thankfully.  The fenders will be replaced either with steel or fiberglass panels, if they fit right, to save some weight.  For those of you not familiar, this Sub is intended to be a street sleeper, and has surprised a BUNCH of ricers with a display of disappearing tailights! :D

I am considering a rake, dropping the front 2-3 inches.  The suspension is fresh from the rebuild last year with urethane bushings and swaybars, so that's not a problem.

I'll freshen the interior, but I'm thinking stock-style.  Plenty of parts available, and alot of the original stuff is still nice.

Paint is the big question...I could go back stock pretty easily.  It looks nice, and stock painted trucks from the '70s are pretty rare...but I am thinking something a bit more retro.

How about flat black with flames, and 18"X10" steel rally wheels painted red with chrome half-moons, like a 50s Hot Rod?? I think it would be cool, especially with the rake...

whaddya think?

Jeff
