Are Multiple Tune Files Dealer Detectable?

Recommended Posts

Can the dealer tell if you've had more than one (stock) tune loaded into the ecm? Im coming from the diesel world and on the 06+ duramax bosch ecms, they store the last 6 tunes so that a tech 2 scanner can tell if a non stock calibration has been loaded. Also, I have an EFI Live V2 so Im not interested in swapping out ecms if I dont have to. Can I just load stock and performance tunes using the V2 without the dealer knowing? Thanks in advance.

it all depends on the software/programmer being used...

DiabloSport programmers - I know for a fact that the answer is no... once you do the restore original backup process, you are back to exactly how it was before you ever tuned it... this is due to proprietary info/programming that comes from having GM programmers on staff... ;)

as for other programmer tools, I couldn't tell ya if theirs do or not...

I've heard that while you may return your tune back to stock, a dealership can still tell the day and time the software was changed. They know that everything is stock, but somethin has been done on a certain date and time, and they didn't do it.

That's why with the blackbear tune, you are running tuned ecms, and can just put your old stock ones back in if you need to take it in. Nothing has been done to the stock ones.

Rather or not a dealer does anything if the truck was returned back to stock, I don't know. When I had the edge evolution, I had to return it back to stock to go into the dealership and they never said anything.

I guess thats what Im asking, I already have the tuning software. I dont want to swap ecms if I dont have to, but I would like to have a professional tuner tune my truck. On diesels Ive heard that if any custom calibration has been loaded, it removes the "watermark" on the screen of the Tech 2 when the ecm is scanned.
