Lift For A 2000 Gmc Sierra

Recommended Posts

I have a 2000 GMC Sierra SLT that currently has a 3 inch body lift on it. I want more lift, but not too much lift. I am no mechanic and will be having this done professionally, but wanted some opinions on what to do. I found a Skyjacker kit that I like, but it is 6 inch. This would give me a total of 9 inches of lift and I really think that is more than I want or need. Should I remove the body lift? Should I go with a smaller suspension lift and leave the body lift? Or should I just go for the 9 inches? I am not an off-roader. I just use my truck on a limited basis and want it to look nice. I am currently fixing it up, just put headers and new full flowmaster system under it. I want to lift it more and get it repainted and fixed up that way as well with new wheels and tires. So, I guess I am just looking for recommendations for how much lift for my needs and what size wheels and tires to go with as well. Thanks, Dano.

i personally don't like body lifts... i would remove the body lift! and get the 6" lift! i have a 99 silverado with a 6" lift and 35x12.5 tires... here's how it looks so you can get an idea! i don't have any problem at all with the tires rubbing when doing sharp turns or what ever....

Go for the 6" and leave the body lift. I ran Skyjackers lift for more than 5 years without issue. And it was no street queen. :P

Yeah, I have mixed feelings on it. I feel like 6 inches would be just about right for what I want, but I'm not sure that I want to remove the body lift kit, as they are a pain in the butt to deal with anyway. Just scared 9 inches will be too high for what I want. I just don't know which way to go.

Stevens11, is that truck with a 6 inch lift?

I wouldn't remove they body lift either.

If your 100% positive all you want is 6 inches of lift you could always get a 4" suspension (I know that would make 7 total but close enough )

I would try and decide what size tires you want to run and go from there on which lift to get.

But if your like most of us and you go for the 4" then later you will wish you had gotten the 6". Or if you get the 6" and remove the body lift you will wish you didn't. :P

Its tough to decide believe me I know. I went with a 1.5 body lift and wish like hell I would have gotten the 3".

Yes... 6" Skyjacker and loved driving it everyday.

Problem leaving the 3" body lift installed is the fact that you'll be too tall for any parking garage. I never found a place I couldn't park with just the 6" with 35" tires. Something to consider.
