Drove A Cummins

Dont waste the salesman's time just to go hotrod a brand new truck...... I am sure you would like driving the GM truck as well. They are very nice. I work at a GM dealer and have driven them quite a bit.

I wouldnt drive a diesel unless I had something real heavy to tow though, they just dont pencil out unless you are pulling 10K plus on a regular basis..... Your dad will be happy with his 1500 I am sure and the 05 should suit you fine.

Reasons to buy a diesel?

Milage. My 01 cummins (stock) got 24 mpg on 35's. my 2011 sierra on 33's gets 15.

Resale value bought my cummins with 270,000km for 12 grand. Sold with 320,000km for 12 grand.

Aftermarket support. Most newer diesels can add 100+ hp for under 500 bucks. try to add 100 horsepower to a gas engine? For my new truck, the only way i can see to add 100 horsepower is a suppercharger, which costs $5000+install.

Not to mention fun factor... PRICELESS

There is no reason to go buy a Cummins when a D-Max can get the job done better and already has a proven track record.

I had my own reasons like, I could not find a long box in a GM when I bought because they were broke and not building any more. Luckily found a white Ram Diesel long box on the lot. Plus I had another ~10,000 or so other reasons to take the proven Cummins. Those reasons show in my payment also.

The sheet metal on the Ram kinda sucks though. It dents and bows in rather easy. The GM interior and ride is superior also, IMO.

Who buys a 3/4 or 1 ton for the ride quality!?

cummins is a high milage, well designed engine. SO IS THE DURAMAX. Both engines pull very nicely. Both trucks do the job. It all comes down to personal preference.

PS dodges hold value pretty good...

Everything I have read on the internet says they have the worst resale value? I may be wrong but they are very popular around here. What about the transmissions behind the cummins? haven't heard much about them
