2007 GMC crew cab 4X4 5.3 AFM aluminum block, purchased new by me. Currently just over 70,000 miles, started oil consumption report around 50,000 miles....I stop in the dealer every now and then and they check and add, but they never do any scientific measurement. Its usually a quart low (they say, but going by dipstick is not accurate to me). Since the report, I am having them do the oil changes and I supply the Mobil 1 5W30 and Ac Delco filters. Definitely uses more oil on long trips. Two weeks ago had my low oil message come up, went to the dealer and they added a quart. Went on 1500 mile trip and the message was back on at about 1200 miles or so....running around town the consumption is less.

I love the truck, plan to keep it until its dead, but I was hoping for 200,000 + miles.... I'm tired of putting oil in it and am concerned about the longevity of this motor.

Its in the shop today for service and also to check out the tick at start up... My warranty expires in about 6 months or so.... Not sure if I should keep it or not yet. So far dealer has done nothing except add oil and send me on my way. I am anxious to see if they do any thing this time.

If your using more than 1 qt in 2,000 miles they should be fixing your truck...

Service mgr explains over the phone the oil consumption is within range and the ticking at start up is normal...I'm getting nowhere with them....... When I pick the truck up it has a documented 2 qt loss within like 1800 miles.... come on!!!!!!!

Oh, they found the tranny pan to be moist, so they determined a seal needs to be replaced and the transmission needs to be pulled out to do it. They said it would take about 5 hrs.....I dropped it off at 7:30 am yesterday morning and they still have it today, Friday at noon..... Gave me a rental last night. ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have consistantly used 1 qt in less than 2000 miles. (1800 miles the first test and 1500 miles on the secound test.) I have an appointment Monday to drop off the truck so that the dealership can determine the cause and make the needed repairs. Loaner car is included if the truck is kept for more than a day..I love the truck, so I hope they can fix this issue..

I just wonder if any of the engines that are consuming oil if anyone tried a engine oil flush product?

A friends claims his oil consumption went away for thousands of miles after using a (non-chemical) engine flush and changing the oil to synthetic which has was not using before. It sounds like maybe the oil rings get deposits when the AFM cylinders shut down and it forms on the rings allowing oil to be consumed because the rings are not sealing properly. He says he was using a qt or more per 1000 miles and went to using none in 3,000 miles (ps-did not use synthetic oil). He got the advice to try this from a GMC tech friend who had a customer with oil consumption problems tell him it worked on his engine.

I hesitate to mention the product as it would be construed by many as just advertising and I realize one or two instances does not prove anything as people tend to exaggerate about product effectiveness.

I took my truck to the dealership. They ordered the Oil pan baffel...Today they removed the oil pan to find that the baffel had already been installed. So today they ordered new piston rings which will take a few days to get here..So I'm driving a new Chevy Impala until my truck is done. I hope the new rings do the trick...

To partially finalize my ongoing oil consumption issue, the dealer ship installed a new drivers side valve cover with a revised baffle in it last week. So within the next few days, I'll change the oil again and proceed to monitor the oil consumption. Hopefully, though not thoroughly convinced, that this repair will solve my issue.

The New improved valve cover is suppose to help elminate the amount of oil being pulled up into the intake manifold. Thus decreasing oils consumption. I have heard that it works in alot of cases. Keep your fingers crossed.

My first post here although I've been looking for awhile.

I have an 07 NBS with AFM with about 80,000 km and it's burning at least 2 qts between oil changes. I've been using K&N oil filters since day 1, and changing the oil when the truck tells me to. It definitely seems to burn more, the more i am in V4 mode.

Very dissapointing for a $45K truck!

What is your oil change intervals?

Mine were near 9,000 miles (14,000+ km) and I was going through 4+ qts of oil between oil changes.

I'm not sure exactly sure what the intervals are. I change it when the onboard computer oil life thing goes down to 0% and change oil message comes on. you think I should change it more often?

Ever since I started using K&N oil filters I'm finding the used oil is still transparent and clean when I drain it. Mind you I'm adding a quart every month or so....
