New Rear End is in....

Recommended Posts

And it fixed that pesky driveline vibration I"d been experiencing since I bought the truck.   Definately nice!  I think the drive shaft still may be very slightly out of balance (which over many years probably caused the whole rear end problem to begin with) so I will get that rebalanced here soon.

The mechanic was out to lunch when I went to pick up the truck so I'm gonna go back out there later and take a look at the old one.

I'll let you know how bad it was when I get back

OK, I got some pics of the old rear end.  I'm going to leave them in super-high-res to show detail.

The ring & pinion were shot but the reast of the components were in better condition than I thought.  You can see how the edges of the teeth on the ring gear are rounded from years of the pinion gear bouncing around, and in the last pic look way back into it and see the front of the pinion gear and how ground & eaten up it is.

Check out the pinion bearing.  :jester:  :)  :flag:
