6in Lift Rough Country

Recommended Posts

The kits are pretty much bolt on. The only thing I'm aware of from the installation I did on my 03 was the grind off of a fin from the front differential. Otherwise, it's a complete bolt on. It's nothing like the olden days when you had to cut off most of the front suspension and reweld everything up. A couple of good jack stands and your solid.

Are you getting the non torsion drop kit? And if you don't mind and its possible, could you take a picture of where/how the 16 inch rims wont fit with lift on?

I think i've finally gotten to the bottom of this. You can run 16's as long as there 16x8 with a backspacing of 4.5 and an offset of pretty much anything negative

[ben] Hello, how may I help you?

[Visitor] i was looking at the 6 inch non torsion drop kit for my 2001 z71 and it has facotry 16's will they work? or do i need to get the 17's?

[ben] 16" wheel will be fine, but no the factory one

[Visitor] why not?

[ben] It doesn't have the right backspacing or off set.

[Visitor] you guys confuse me! i had one guy before you tell me they would work fine!!!!!!

[ben] it will cause the tire to rub ont eh knuckle

[ben] on a 6" lift?

[ben] no

[ben] they will not

[ben] unless you put some wheel spacers on it.

[ben] the wheel diameter is not a problem as long as you don't go smaller than a 16" wheel.

[ben] the problem is the offset and backspacing.

[ben] If those two variables are not correct the 12.5 wide tire will rub on our knuckle tha tlifts the truck.

[Visitor] ok, so what backspacing and offset do i need in order to run a 16 inch rim with a 35 on the non torsion drop kit?

[ben] you need a negative offset and backspacing of 3.75-4.5

[ben] or throw a set of wheel spacers ont he truck and rock out

[Visitor] what does the negative offset need to be?

[ben] as long as it's neg you are good.

[Visitor] your 100% positive Ben?

[ben] Yes I am Visitor

[Visitor] Haha ok a couple more questions

[ben] I can't I gotta go hang on let me get you another sales person

[Ryan] Hello, how may I help you?

[ben] Ryan please help this guy.

[ben] I need to go get Dave from sschoo

[ben] school

[ben] Thanks

[Joe Kickass] so your not positive on the whole negative offset thing?

[Ryan] the offset will need to be -12mm and a backspace of 4.5

[Joe Kickass] woah woah...ben said it didnt matter what the offset had to be, so now it has to be -12

[Ryan] he said as long as you are neg. -12 is the best and most common

[Joe Kickass] ok, so a 16 inch rim will fit as long as it has a backspacing of 4.5 with a negative offset of -12?

[Ryan] yes and as long as it is not wider than 9in

[Joe Kickass] now is this a common size for 16 inch rims?

[Ryan] 16x8

[Joe Kickass] so i need to get a 16x8 rim with a backspacing of 4.5 with a negative offset of -12?

[Ryan] correct

[Joe Kickass] ok, so what size are my factory rims?

[Ryan] prolly 16x7

[Joe Kickass] gotcha, so whats the deal then with the 17's? do they have to be aftermarket 17's as well?

[Ryan] yes and with the same offset and backspacing.

[Joe Kickass] i was looking at these rims, but they dont have any with a -12 backspacing wtf?

[Joe Kickass] http://www.wheelsnext.com/wheels-rims/16x8...d-Polished.html

[Ryan] those will be ok they are only 6mm off so they should fit.

[Joe Kickass] ok, and with the non torsion drop kit does that mean i can still crank my torsion bars up 2 inches if i wanted to

[Ryan] no

[Joe Kickass] why not? i thought it left the torsion bars alone?

[Ryan] it leaves them in the stock locatoin but if you go over 6in on the kit you will have issues with the cv shafts
