Dmax Exhaust

Recommended Posts

Well guys, I am a newbee to the chevy world.

I had been a dodge guy for 30 something years. I have had nothing but dodge trucks.
I just tradded in my dodge for a 2007 2500HD classic with the Dmax. This is my first diesel. I absolutly love it.

My question is, The previous owner put on a cat back SS magnaflow exhaust and a K&N filter, but kept the factory air box.

Is there anything to worry about with this exhaust? The truck was never chipped. So it probabbly was not hott dogged. According to the dealer, the person who owned this truck has been doing buisness with them for 25-30 years. He showed me the origional purchas order and service records. I think I got a good truck. Dunno. The truck has 43,xxx on it and is super clean.

Any other tips and tricks would be appreciated.

sighned,
A happy chevy owner

Only 43k miles on a '07 diesel.....yep, sounds like a great deal. And based on the pictures in your other thread, it looks real clean.
The exhaust is cat-back, so you shouldn't have any problems with it at all.

There has been a lot of problems with K&N on the Dmaxs. The oil from the filter contaminates the MAF sensor

My truck had a K&N in it when I bought it. I was having some starting issues with it after I bought It so I had to take it into the dealer. When they pulled the codes it had a MAF sensor code in it. They replaced the air filter with a factory one and I told them to throw the K&N in the trash. I have read the K&N statement posted above, but I still believe that OEM factory filters are just fine.

The factory airbox is good to about 500 horsepower so I would leave it factory.

I'm running a cat back exhaust on my 07 DMAX. It was also installed by the previous owner. I would like to get rid of the cat one of these days though. I might keep the free flow exhaust on it though as I dont want it to get to noisy in the cab as it might if I straight pipe it.

My truck sits alot as I have a company truck to drive for work. I bought it with 30,000 miles on it last year and i think I have just under 36,000 on it now.

Good luck with your truck, I think you will continue to love it.

I have used just about every air intake out there.... i have K&N on everything i own EXCEPT my Diesel!!! i use an AEM Brute Force HD intake. On the Dyno i showed a 12hp difference and a 36lb torque difference between AEM and K&N. I love them both but i trust my diesel to AEM.

When it comes to the exhaust, the magnaflow that is on it can not be beat.... every vehicle i own and have owned in the past has been Magnaflow equipped!!! It is guaranteed for life and American made.

I have a 2006 duramax(310bhp, lly i think and allison 6 speed) that i pull a 5th wheel and boat with. I'm looking for better fuel mileage and am considering a chip. I thought i would open up the exhaust and intake first though. also curious about egr kit but was told the computer won't allow it, any recommendations.
