Just joined the Forum and wanted to say hello. I was referred here from a member of the Corvette Forum.

I just ordered a Chevy Silverado LS 2500HD extended cab with the Duramax and Allison combination as we are planning on hauling a car trailer to several longer distance car shows. From what I've been able to research, as well as several test drives, this seems like a good combination for our use.

Being a hot rodder at heart, I can't seem to leave anything alone and have begun making a list of accessories and changes to make. Things on the list thus far are: billet grill, running boards, replacing the fender flares with smooth units (which will be painted in a contrasting color along with the area below the beltline), fiberglass tonneau cover, bed rug and pinstripping. I am also considering the advantages of the GMPP. I'm sure you folks can help with the things I have missed.  :uhoh:

I don't have a target production week yet but hope to by next week.

I've been scanning the various threads this past week for the experience of those who have these trucks and this forum is a great place to find information. Thanks in advance for your thoughts and comments.

Frank,

Thanks for the welcome. I realized after posting here that there was a separate section for introductions and posted there as well. It's part of my learning curve on a new forum. :uhoh: While I've had trucks before it was a long time ago and things sure have changed. I've done quite a bit of research so far but there's a lot left to learn and I appreciate all the help I can get.

Thanks again,

Rich-

When you first start driving your new truck, you'll develop a silly grin.  Don't worry about it, it will never truly go away...these rigs are so much fun to drive.  :uhoh:   A good discussion of accesories and the Duramax in general can also be found in the forums at The Diesel Page.

As far as the GMPP goes...any extended warranty is really just an insurance policy.  You're paying a fee on the chance you may have problems beyond the factory warranty.  Since the Duramax comes with a 100,000 mile warranty, then engine itself isn't going to be covered any extra with the extended warranty.  If GM (or other's who offer these plans) weren't making money on them, they wouldn't exist.  For every person who gets their money back in repair savings, dozens, if not hundreds never get anything out of it.  It's your call, but IMHO, you are likely just throwing money out the window.

bluenote,

Thanks for the link. It looks like a good source of information.

Also, thanks for your thoughts on the GMPP. I was thinking along the same lines even though I had bought the GMPP for a new Corvette a couple of years ago. You are right about the warranty that already comes with the truck. I guess the only other aspect is the potential advantage when it comes to selling it later on even though you probably won't recoup the initial cost.

Thanks again, (I'll try to keep the grin under control!)
