Autocal Programming Question

Recommended Posts

I have a question for those of you who have performed multiple tune file installs using the AutoCal from Black Bear...

I received my tune files from Justin this week and I installed the 87 Octane ECM tune and the Daily-Tow TCM tune. Everything went perfectly according to plan with the install: after completing each of the tune installs, the dashboard lights in my truck blinked and made the clicking sounds, then the AutoCal displayed "Turn Ignition Off NOW", which I did. I hit the OK button after turning the ignition off and removing the key and the AutoCal displayed "Wait 15 secs" (and it counted down from there). Voila!... I was rockin' and rollin'.

Tonight, I decided I to install the 93 Octane ECM tune and the Sport TCM tune. This time, however, at the completion of each tune file install, the dashboard lights blinked and made the clicking sounds, but the AutoCal device did NOT display "Turn Ignition Off NOW". Instead, it immediately displayed "Wait 15 secs" and began counting down while the ignition key was still in the Run position. In other words, the device did NOT instruct me to "Turn Ignition Off NOW", it just completed the install (blinked the lights and made the clicking sounds) and then immediately displayed "Wait 15 secs" and counted down from there. I waited until it was done counting down and then I turned the ignition off and removed the key.

Is the lack of "Turn Ignition Off NOW" normal behavior whenever one installs a new set of Justin's ECM/TCM tune files over an existing set or was there a problem with my install of the 93 Octane ECM and Sport TCM tunes? (FWIW, I tried the install a couple of times and it did the same thing both times.)

I PM'd Jenna this morning and she thought perhaps I accidentally hit the OK button twice (which might cause the AutoCal to immediately go to the "Wait for 15 secs" screen when it was done with the install). I'm not sure if I was hitting the button twice by accident or, more likely, I think I may have been holding the button down too long when hitting it. So, I reinstalled the tunes again, this time being very careful not to hit the OK button twice and also being careful to hit the button very quickly and not hold it down too long. Bingo! Everything installed this time exactly as it is supposed to.

Thanks Jenna!!
