Snow Traction: LSD vs Stabilitrak

Recommended Posts

I've been planning to purchasing a 2003 Yukon Denali but am concerned about the AWD changes (vs 2002).  Gone is the limited slip rear and viscous coupling center diffential.  For 2003 they have been replaced with open front, center and rear differentials.  Brake induced traction control at individual wheels (via Stabilitrak) allows torque transfer across the axle, preventing all the torque to be transferred to the wheel with least traction.

I need to accelerate, from a stop, up a snow and ice covered

hill during the winter.  My concern is the Denali AWD system will provoke so much brake and engine management that I will have a tough time climbing the hill.  As a result I have been looking at the standard Yukon with Autotrac.  Can

someone comment on any experiences they have had in slippery traction scenarios with the 2003 Yukon Denali with AWD.

Votes would also be appreciated for one of the following three 4WD/AWD configurations which would provide the best traction.  I don't need low range.

1.  Yukon Delani.  Open front, center, rear differentials.  Stabilitrak (standard).

2.  Yukon with Autotrac.  4Auto/HI which locks transfer case.  Limited slip rear differential.  No Stabilitrak.

3.  Yukon with Autotrac.  4Auto/HI which locks transfer case.  Stabilitrak option with requires open rear differential (and brake induced torque transfer across the axle).

Thanks in advance for your comments
