Big Problems Can Someone Help

Recommended Posts

hey my name is ryan i have an 2003 gmc sierra 1500 5.3L 4x4 i have had four trouble codes pop up p0101, p0131, p0171, and p0300. my truck runs really rough on at an idol only when it is warm. i have an cold air intake, high flow cats, bully dog chip and dual bottles if that helps any.....

i just cleaned the maf sensor today, but didnt do that much, i also changed out my fuel pressure regulator it helped it run a little less rough but it still runs very rich...

any suggestions?

P0101 Mass air flow sensor performance.

P0131 is an o2 sensor issue.

P0171 is an engine running lean issue.

P0300 is engine misfire code.

I would start with the P0171, Intake gaskets are known for trouble on these. Spray some choke cleaner around the intake when truck is just started cold and see if rpms change. If so need to change gaskets. Hard to say but the intake gaskets could possible cause all of these codes if leaking bad enough. I would start there, fix any issues, clear the codes, drive the truck and re-evaluate any concerns. Also I have never heard of cleaning a mass air flow sensor. I have only replaced them. It is possible the mass air flow sensor could be causing the lean condition. If you have access to another truck same as yours, swap out the mass air flow and see how she runs.

Pick up a can of mass air flow cleaner from your local parts store and clean it. Only use MAF cleaner, anything else will mess it up. If that does not work, do as previously suggested.

I seconded cleaning the MAF sensor. As mentioned, either use MAF cleaner or a good electrical contact cleaner. Just don't touch the little diodes with your fingers. Clean the throttle body and blade, disconnect the neg side of the battery for a few minutes to allow the PCM to reset and see if the lights/codes come back.

Your Air intake most likely is whats causing the lean code and the fact that your MAF sensor is/could be dirty could trip those codes.

Start there and report back.

dual bottles as in nitrous?? if so did you get any back fires??? if you did its an intake leak dude. sounds like one anyways. a bad one.

heres the update. i tried the maf cleaner and that did nothing i bought a new maf sensor and didnt do a thing...... i removed the cold air intake, and put the stock box on also to see it would help... i am very puzzled into what to do

and as for the nitrous question, there is no nitrous, what i meant by bottles was like a thrush style muffler.

Hey if this wasnt fixed yet....I had a 2008 cobalt that i put in a customer air intake and when doing so i pinched the wires that plug into the sensor which gave me all of the same codes (or similar)...so just check the wires make sure none are bent.

Might try a new fuel filter then check pressure to be sure its not your fuel pump I have had to replace several fuel pumps on Chevys

after they get 150,000 on them. I had some of the same codes you do on my Denali but after finding a post from digitalembrace it looks like my catalytic convs. are the culprit, I had put a new fuel pump on it a few months ago but I checked gas pressure before reading codes..
