Tranny in need of reprogram?

Recommended Posts

My friend from work has an '02 6.0L 2500HD excab 4x4.  He said his truck is not shifting into OD when it is cold...

Now I know these trannies are supposed to stay in 2nd gear a little longer on cold days, and OD is not supposed to engage until internal temps come up, but we have not had any mornings colder than 45 degrees yet...  He said he went 5 miles with the tach reading over 3K RPM the other day before he was able to convince the truck to go into OD with a little fancy foot work with the throttle.

I told him that I would think there is probably an update available to the computer that would fix this but I'm not sure...  I know these 4L80E trannies are built tough, but I'm not totally convinced that there isn't something else wrong...  Anybody have any ideas???
