6.0L performance upgrades

Recommended Posts

Hi guys I am new at the 6.0l vortecs. I am big into the Syclones and Typhoons so I have quite a bit of knowledge when it comes to motors and tuning.(I tuned the record holding Syclone using the stock block, crank and ecm 10.71@126mph). Any way I have a friend that owns a GM dealership that has a new SS on the way. We would like to get 500+ hp out of it and I need to be pointed in the right direction for info on these motors. Stuff like injector sizes etc.

We plan to use the stock PCM and use a intercooled blower to reach our goal. Any info on these motors would be great! thanks for your time.

Hi, I am currently building a 2001 GMC c3 6.0L up and I just wanted to let you know what I have learned so far.  If you want to go over 500hp the things that will have to replaced depend on its application.  If you want to get that power out of the engine and not bolt-ons, talk to Lingenfelter performance parts about it.  The new SS will have the Cadillac LQ9 block where as I have the LQ4.  The only difference I can see in the heads for the extra 20hp.  For bolt-ons, I have installed a K&N gen 2 intake kit, JBA shorty headers, Magnaflow 3inch 2in/2out exhaust, JBA plug wires, Granatelli MAF, and a custom burned programmer from superchips.  With those bolt-ons I currently run 14.7 sec in the quarter with a 0-60 of 5.9sec.

I estimate that the bolt-ons provided and additional 70-80hp.  Stock the truck would run at 15.9 and 7.4 sixty times.  To have the AWD handle over 500hp, it looks like the tranny will need a rebuild and a new torque converter, Yank or Lingenfelter performance.  The Viscous coupling differential is rated at 550hp and 600 lb-ft of torque momentarily and 350hp and 350lb-ft continuous.  The top end wouldn't hurt from JE forged components and ARP hardware.  The bottom end seems to be strong from what I hear, but it wouldn't hurt to go thorugh it either.  The stock injectors run at 24 lbs-hr.  Now, for superchargers whipple and Kenne Bell make the best kits out there.  They use autorotor twin-screw blowers as apposed to roots style or centrifugal.  The Kenne Bell is a better unit because the kit comes with a cold air intake to pull air from behind the airdam and also comes with 8 new 36lb-hr injectors and a plug-in programmer.  The power gain is a claimed 50%, but actual is between 44-47%.

Lingenfelter performance built a C3 with 400hp at the motor and bolted on a magnacharger for an additional 75hp.  the truck ran 13.3 in the quarter and 4.7 0-60 as tested by car and driver.  The truck also had a new converter and tranny rebuild.  The stock stall is 1900 and the new one was I believe 2600rpm.  Hoper this is enough info to help you out.  Let me know if you have any more questions.
