Just Ordered Autocal From Blackbear

I'm not sure if this is the right forum to post this, but I'm pretty excited and had to tell someone who would appreciate it!

I just ordered the Autocal from Blackberry today. I'm looking forward to finding out how my 08 Sierra Denali reacts to a little added get up and go. Nothing wrong the with 6.2 as it sits, but hey, never too much power, right?

Merry Christmas.

I am new to tuning and looking for something, no necessarily "custom tune", but something that will give the truck just a little more. Looking at Diablosport Predator so far. Does the AutoCal come with tunes in it from Blackbear, or does it just collect data and you have to send it back to them after you drive around with it connected for a while?

I think you would have been happier with a tune from Black BEAR instead of Blackberry :) but who am I to say :D

Don't waste your money on the Diablo. I had one and have since gotten the autocal and tune from BlackBear. It only takes a 20-30 minute log before you have what you need to send in for your tune.

Trust me....Get the Auto Cal and save yourself 300.00.

I WILL be going with the AutoCal from BBP....Just going to be a little bit, $ is tight right now..After doing research with other hand helds available, seems like this is the best bang for yout buck.......One more question. When I do order mine, How do I get the data back to BBP? and how do you know what tunes you will get (definately need towing, performance.. I run only 87 octane with whatever %E the gas station has) and can it be returned to stock for dealer trips without leaving a footprint..............Sorry for the questions but I am a new B to this stuff. The more I read about BBP the more I want their tune.

After you get the Auto Cal, you hook it up to the truck and record a log of your driving. Then you hook auto cal up to computer and save the log to computer. Then just email it back to BB.

After Justin checks out your logs he will email asking what kind of tune you're looking for and then make your tune.

With the auto cal you save your stock tune to your computer and they before you go to the dealer you just load the stock file back into the auto cal, then load it back into the truck.

Check out BlackBearPerformance.com for more information and several FAQ's. Plus you can email them with any questions you might have.

HA! That's funny. In my excitement, my tech background got the best of me.

Yes, from Black BEAR Performance. Shipping was speedy, especially considering the time of year. Very impressed on that front.

I've done my data logging this week, and now am just in the "have patience" phase.

  • 2 weeks later...

I ordered 91 octane tune. It's a daily driver, and otherwise stock, so I didn't ask for anything too radical. I had a couple of annoying shift points that Justin tuned out for me, as well as firming up the shifts overall. Justin sent me both a daily-driver/tow transmission tune as well as a "sport" mode. I thought I really loved my 6.2 before, but now... wow. Before, I'd stomp on it, hear a lot of noise, hold on and then get moving. Now when I stomp on it, the speedo and tach both jump at the same time and I'm gone. I can't really describe the change any better.

I was worried that the sport mode might be too harsh for daily driving, but when I keep my foot out of it, the truck still shifts as smooth as silk. It holds the gear a little longer, but that seems to suit my driving style anyhow. I went for a drive with my wife, and she said "I thought you did something to the truck, I don't notice any difference." So, that invited a quick demonstration. Yes, she did notice the difference.

I haven't been through a tank of gas yet, so I can't speak to mileage, but if it is anywhere close to what it was, I'd be impressed. I haven't driven the truck this hard in a long time... I'd assume that a lighter right foot will help, but the instant smile that I get when I push hard is still a novelty.

The problem with the added acceleration is that it IS addictive. I've added an intake system to my wish list, and maybe some day some long tube headers.... there really is no end though, is there?
