Cold start knock...

Recommended Posts

Has anyone attempted the partial rebuild required to fix the “gm piston slap” or aka “cold start knock”?  I have seen a previous post of a guy in dallas that did, and it worked great.  I believe that new pistons, rings, and cylinder boring are required.

I know that GM says it is “normal” to knock, but we all know better, right?  Just like excessive detonation or “pinging” is “normal”.  These conditions damage and reduce the reliability and longevity of the engine.  Frankly, for a 30k investment, I was expecting more.

Enough of the ranting.  Has anyone here tried it?  How much did it cost?

Thanks

gandolph;

Did your 8.1L have piston slap before you supercharged?  Did it develope it after the supercharger?  Or is it knock free?

My 6.0L has gotten considerably louder in the last 3k, 33k on it now.  I really starting to doubt the reliability of the engine.

Any thoughts on this would be welcome!
