Hard shifting '93 1500

Recommended Posts

My wife's step dad has a '93 K1500 Z71 reg cab short bed.

I knew 4 years ago he complained how hard his truck shifted but I didn't know how bad it was until I drove it last night.

At normal speeds it shifts out of first at 1900 RPM's, but if you give it enough gas from a stop so that it shifts at 2300 it will bark the tires on pavement going into second.

The dealer he took it to said there was no problem and since he hasn't had even a u joint go bad I guess there isn't a real problem but I've never seen a truck shift like that. Any thoughts?

Keep in mind, you're used to Electronically controlled torque managment enabled automatics used now.  His sounds perfectly normal.  I'd only worry unless it hits hard and jars teeth loose and makes riding in the truck uncomfortable.  If it just shifts crisp and strong under throttle, I wouldn't worry too much.
