New EMISSIONS requirements on DURAMAX?

ZRATED

Recommended Posts

Hey everybody. I am new to the truck market.

I am glad I found this website!

I am really impressed with the Duramax/Allison drivetrain.

My question is this.

Does anyone know for sure, when these new Emissions regulations will effect the Duramax???

I have heard that they don't become "Law" until 2004. But Ford and Cummins are going to be installing the new Smog equipment in the 2003 model year.

Will Dmax wait until the actual 2004 model year to make the EGR and Converter changes, or do it sometime in the 2003 model year?

What effect will these new emissions regulations mean for the guys that want to boost the power output on these motors?

It would sound like they would somewhat limit the top end power capabilities...??? Are the new regulations a BAD thing???

Should I order the 03 NOW, Or does it matter when I get my truck?

Thanks in advance...

Scott,

Thank you for the reply.

I have looked all over for any real information on what exactly the 04's will have, but have hardly found a thing.

Can you post a link to where GM is talking about it? (Or even anyone who has information.)

I plan on talking to the GM guys at the SEMA show in a few weeks, but I fear that they will be tight liped about the subject.

Is it true that California Duramax engines already have smog equipment on them?

One more thing...

I want to order my D/A GMC late in the 2003 model year.

How late in the year can an order be placed? Any recomendations?

Thanks again everyone!!

My 2003 DMax has a cat and egr.

If I heard right every '04 in CA will have them (every as in Ford and Cummins too).  With that, expect them to be nationwide in '05.

Note:  My '03 can still run with the little cars bone stock.  Like I told a guy that works for me,  "If I can get my turbo spooled up you are toast."   He was  :D
