About towing interstate scales

Recommended Posts

Passed on from "Maverick" who is a hotshotter:

As far as stopping at the wiegh stations  -  most states require 10,000 lbs GVW  or more to weigh.  If the driving vehicle is not marked (stickered) as a commercial vehicle  -  I would think he could just drive by.  But if he's not sure -- I would suggest to pull in anyway.  If the weigh master doesn't want him - he'll wave him on through.  If he is going as a commercial vehicle, make sure he has a log book, a medical card, proof of motor carrier insurance, and the proper safety equipment in the vehicle (ie. fire extinguisher, first aid kit, and warning triangles).  If he needs any more information, I would suggest he contact his state's DMV.

Thanks guys... I think I'll just drive on by and if they come after me I'll plea the 5th and pay the fine, if there is one.

The vehicle I'm towing is probably 8600, the trailer is @ 2000

and then there is my 2500HD.

It will be a Uhaul trailer so maybe that'll signal I'm just a regular Joe instead of a commercial driver.
