Don`t waste your time and money with either. Get a Blackbear tune.

I understand custom tunes are better but that's not what I asked. I'm not looking to get a custom tune...I want opinions from knowledgeable people or people with experience between the two.

I have a Diablo but have never used Superchips.

I think the Diablo does ok but I have nothing to compare it to right now.

I could tell a little difference (I think) when I put the 87 Octane Tune in and a little more difference with the Performance Tune (93).

That being said I plan on getting a custom tune SOON.

I have the Diablo and think it does make a little difference. It must give a little power increase as it stayed in 4cyl. mode longer on the freeway( until I disabled it) and didn't downshift as much towing my camper but nothing drastic. Didn't notice any real mpg increase, maybe 1/2 mpg on average but not enough to matter. Not as much lag when starting from a stop but no tcm support yet which sucks. I have nothing to compare it to as its my 1st tuner but have been happy so far.

  • 2 weeks later...

if i was to order a handheld programmer today for a gmt900 truck, it would be the superchips Cortex... 100%.

Diablo doesnt have TCM support and they've strung their loyal customers along for over 2 years with empty promises. Even if they do finally get TCM support, ive lost faith in their upper management. $.02

with that said, if i ever get a tune it'l more than likely be an Autocal from BB.

Worst than that Matt, I have seen people on the Diablo forum say they have an issue with the software not loading into their vehicle. It takes sometimes up to a week for a response and than sometimes over a month with them asking Please Help for an update.

Meanwhile they already spent their money for the programmer that does not work...:driving:

Hey Matt, I finally sold my Cortex and ordered the Autocal from Black Bear. Writeup to follow after I get it installed and put some miles on it.

Hey Mike I had you customize my 87 Octane Tune to account for my new 4.88 gears. If I do this update will it wipe that out?

I got your PM. Thanks

yes... because you will have to restore the original backup stock tune to the truck first... then update the tool... and you would need to re-install the diablo tune you want...

then, just use the dsdownloader to export new copies of your tune files (original backup and "last tune written") and send 'em to mike, and he can make the same update/change for you again in a new updated tune file.
