Detail Fun

I finally got some down time to detail the Silverado, the outside anyway. I am a new Adams Premium Car Care Products follower. I love his stuff. It is very high quality, very easy to use, the customer service is outstanding, and the shine is out of this world. I did a 3 step process on it in about 2.5 hours the other night. Even the stuff on the tires is Adams. If you havent used any, and get an opportunity, you should, you will convert.

This is my arsenal, the pads look dirty, b/c this is after I used them. The process is color coded. The liquid you use for each pad, matches the color of the pad. I use them all with my Meguiars DA.

Also, these pictures were taken in midday sun, but its all the time I had, so I went for it.

I am with you on the adam's products. I just picked up a buffer and hope to try it out this week but have hand applied products from them in the past. The results are outstanding. Here is a couple pix of my old ride after a detail. I am sure the Sierra will look just as good.

Nice work on the SSS!

Guys, just beware of the folks who shill Adam's polishes just like those who shill for Zaino on a lot of boards. You can get just as good (if not better in some cases) results from a lot of other products. Mother's, Meguiar's, 3M, Poorboys, et. al. all make quality product lines.

Actually, for those who may not be aware, Zaino is actually just a private label version of Duragloss, and Adam's is a private label version of Chemical Guys.

It's not about what brand of products you use, it's about proper technique and persistent maintenance.

There is truth to that no doubt. I have a cupboard full of different stuff. I have used and continue to use everthing from Mothers to Turtle wax. For a full out detail I really like the Adam's stuff. Regardless of who makes them, the stuff is very user friendly, durable, and offers great results. I didn't mean to "pimp" any particular product. Just offering an opinion based on my own experience with this one. I will always have their products on hand even if I am paying a bit more than I have to.

The more I think about it the more offended I am by your inference. Couldn't any person posting an opinion of any product be accused of "Shilling".

1. a person who poses as a customer in order to decoy others into participating, as at a gambling house, auction, confidence game, etc.

2.a person who publicizes or praises something or someone for reasons of self-interest, personal profit, or friendship or loyalty.

I don't work for Adam's, profit from any sale, have no self-interest, and any loyalty I may feel is based on my experience with the product. Don't most folks have a sense of loyalty to products that work for them. I also like Coke over Pepsi. I don't work for them either.

Don't get your panties all in a bunch. The point I was making was that instead of people being so focused on the brand of product/products used for a detail, the real focus should be on technique used to produce a result.

As a veteran professional detailer I always tell people that it really doesn't matter what products I am given to work with, I will be able to pull off a high quality result simply because I know how to work with various types of tools, pads, and abrasives properly and effectively. Do some products make certain jobs easier to do? Absolutely. Doesn't mean the job can't be done with something else though.

The reason I made the comment I did was not to bash anyone or accuse anyone specifically of shilling in this post, but rather to make the point that the thread starter's result was good not because of the products he used, but because obviously he knows how to use the products properly/effectively. THAT is really the direction the discussion should be going, as opposed to a product brand discussion.

Sadly, the current American consumer culture is heavily brand-driven, and that sometimes detracts from the important "meat and potatoes" aspects of purchasing and using any product. On several of the detailing forums I participate in, there is a saying that goes "Find something you like and use it often." In other words, it really doesn't matter what you're using if you're using it as intended and getting good results on a consistent basis. The other popular phrase we use is "Each one teach one." That isn't meant to say "teach people which products are best," it means "teach people the right way to use the products they have or choose to use."

Capiche?

Although not an expert like yourself I have found some products work better than others. Specifically, qualities like ease of application, durability, and gloss can and do vary quite a bit. You are correct to point out technique is a vital step to the application of any product. You are also correct to point out there are a number of good waxes, polishes, and detailing products out there worth considering. You are wrong to use terminology that suggest posters who offer opinions on specific products are being anything other than honest. Perhaps you should have focused more on the intent of you post and less on accusations directed toward people you know nothing about. JMHO

Speaking of detailing, I just spent the whole day clay barring my mom's Mustang which is a 2004 model. Seeing my mom is not a person who really cares about detailing, but at least washes her car and vacuums the inside, I must say that the clay bar works wonders on cars that havent had it done in a while or never. I wish I would have taken a before and after shot, but regardless of whether you wax or not, the damn bar was able to bring back the smoothness and shine the paint and clear cloat originally shows. My mom was so impressed with it, she wanted me to do my sisters car which I know definitly needs it. As for wax, Turtle wax always worked for me.

Well, not quite the thread I expected, but thanks for the few compliments I got. As far as the conversation about products and techniques, I won't go there unless someone wants to start a detail thread, or section, then I'll be all over it. I've got plenty of stories and experience with all kinds of techniques and products. With pictures.....

Product reviews??????? In a truck forum??????? What a concept!!!!! Regardless of where this thread has gone (my fault as much as anything :uhoh: ) does not mean it can not once again head in the direction you intended. I would love to see more pics or hear opinions on products you or anyone have tried. You do seem to have a well equipped detail kit. Let's hear about the techniques you employed and how they could help the "everyday" man.

I'm not denying that some products work better than others in certain situations. I'm just saying that there's a positive way of presenting those facts/opinions and a way that comes across not so innocently (even if you ultimately had innocent intentions).

Again, I have been around the detailing world and online car communities for many years and any time I read something like:

"I am a new Adams Premium Car Care Products follower. I love his stuff. It is very high quality, very easy to use, the customer service is outstanding, and the shine is out of this world. I tend to look at that as shilling, or at the very least promotion of a product that goes beyond normal objective evaluation. The whole statement just comes across like something written by the marketing department (even if in truth it isn't). I've seen enough shills over the years to recognize their tactics in use, even if unintentionally.
