Any oil is good as long as you change it when you should.

 

That said, I use Pennzoil Platinum and a Wix oil filter. I let the truck's OLM tell me when to change, usually at 10% oil life.

the filter is a huge factory in how long you go between changes, remeber that...for example amsoil can go 10k i think between changes but if your running a filter not built for severe change intervals your going to be running into problems...i don't ever go by oil life, i've never seen it come on in my truck i just go 3k for peace of mind, my entire family uses mobil one for 5-8k intervals with zero problems though

I use Valvoline 5w30 and a Purolator pure1 filter. I try every 3000-3500 but some times I just go by what the computer says.

 

Is it ever to late to switch to synthetic oil? I'm over 100k and I've heard some differing opinions.

Switched over to syn at 170,000 in our '96 silvy. No problems at all. The thing gets beat on pretty hard from time to time and it has 211,xxx on it now. Original everything.

I use Valvoline Max Life oil with a Fram oil filter and haven't had any problems. I also change my oil every 3,000 miles. I drive a lot of miles going back and forth to work and school so it makes me feel good changing it often.

The reason I use the OLM is for warranty purposes, when the 5yr/100k power train warranty is done I'm very sure I can do 10k per oil change easy. But I'll have the oil tested first. I can run 7K + before my OLM reaches 10%, so based on that I should be able to get 8K when the OLM reaches 0%, but I don't want to push it.

 

I'm going to try Pennzoil Ultra this weekend as I need to change my oil anyway. 5-quart jug is $28 at Wally World, I just hope they have single quarts or I'll have to buy Platinum.

ditch the fram, get an ac delco or other decent brand...fram filters are about 3 bucks for a reason...specially if your driving alot, i average about 40-50 miles a day and i swear by ac delco(stock filter) and the oil always comes out nice and none chunky

I use Pennzoil Platinum which is on the GM "High Performance Engine" list, so does that mean that my truck's engine is High Performance too? J/K

 

Wally World didn't have any Ultra so I used my good old Pennzoil Platinum.

Penzoil Platinum and a Purolator PurOne filter, change it when the OLM says so, usually around 8k, no worries.
