Spring Truck Cleaning...

Recommended Posts

I finally got around to my bi-annual wax job on the truck. I was getting sick of driving a dirty truck around

Unfortunately, came across this wonderful surprise when washing the truck. Don't know if the dealer can/will fix it or if I should try to. It's just above the windshield next to the "shark fin". Damn rocks...

Anyway, this year I decided to try a new wax....Meguiars NXT Generation Tech Wax 2.0:

It is actually a pretty good wax, at least for application and initial appearance. Went on very easily with the provided foam applicator and more surprisingly, came off really well with minimal/no swirls or residue left behind. I used a microfibre towel to take the wax off. Time will tell how well it lasts. Here are some shots of the progress:

The last thing to tackle after shining up the tires was to remedy the crappy finishing job GM did on these GMT-900 bumpers causing them to tarnish over the winter. Here's the rear when I started (granted I only pressure washed it at this point and didn't sponge it yet...not that it improves much):

Treated it with some Nevr-Dull that I picked up at Canadian Tire. You guys were right, this is really good stuff:

Truck looks good clean!!! I hope you enjoy it for the next few hours :sigh:

I use that same wax, I have found that it holds up pretty well. But, the main reason I have been using it is because the shine/finish you get with it with minimal effort (can usually wax the entire truck in 20-30 min)

Also, the NEVR-DULL is the best product I have ever used on chrome. Mine looked just as bad, if not worse than yours (Cleveland winters), and it buffed out in minutes. It keeps that shine for about 6 months before you may have to do it again. I usually do mine once before winter and once after.

Looks great but you have to give Colinite 845 insulator wax a try, it is super easy to use/remove and leaves no dust as well but the real magic in it is that it lasts for 6 months!

I originally read about it at www.autopia.org so I gave it a try and I haven't looked back since.

Great to hear you guys have had success with the NXT stuff. I did some research before buying and it seemed to be rated fairly high. Thanks for the tip on the Colinite wax Dale. I'll give it a try the next time round and compare the differences.

That was another thing that surprised me with the NXT, no wax dust left over after wiping it off. I used to use Turtle Wax (the green liquid) on the old truck and would always have to blow the dust off as I moved along. Maybe I just used too much :uhoh:
