I don't think any one of those is really 'the best'.  There was a guy with a 13 second Silverado (Darren) who had dyno numbers on his webpage. He found a 4.4HP increase with the K&N FIPK over the Airraid setup.

Since then, other 'closed' systems (UPD & Volant) have become popular.

I prefer the open setup K&N offers, then again, I don't drive through many dirty/dusty conditions. If I did, I would probably get one of the closed systems.

My $.02

I am going to go with the Volant.  I am tempted by the K&N, but hearing about water getting into the intake because it is an open system concerns me.  I own a car wash, so my Tahoe will be getting wet almost daily.  Besides I think the Volant looks very cool.  I think I will also add the PowerAid throttle body spacer.  A lot of people say it doesn't really work, but for $95, I'll take that risk.  Exhaust will be next, but I really don't want any increase in sound or vibration.

I have the K&N and I am happy with it.  I love the 4 barrel sound at WOT.  I have had NO problems with water.  The truck is washed every other day (under the hood once a week).

I would feel comfortable going with the Volant, K&N, or most of the others.  The differences in performance between them can't be more than 2-3 hp.

Ill be getting a UPD soon.

Ive seen pictures of trucks with the open air types and there was mud everywhere.  Im sure water gets in just the same.

For me having a 4x4 and going places other that just the street, i wouldnt get an open air system.
