horsepower ratings for the 6.0 liter??????

Recommended Posts

Okay Guys,

The 2500 H/D with 6.0 liter is rated at 300h/p, the Denali is rated at something around 330 h/p, the Escalade is rated at 350h/p, all three engines are the aluminum 6.0 liter??  How do you explain the difference in horsepower?  Anyone know?  I don't think the plastic cadillac manifold cover can add 50 horsepower, or can it?

Thanks.

Cam profiles are different.  The Escalade also has the LS6 intake and head design from the Vette.  And of course different fuel curves in the computer.  All three (I haven't really looked) should have there torque ratings fairly close to each other.  Comes down to marketing.  John Moss has easily taken the 6.0L to 450hp naturally aspirated in the SS Silverado prototypes with basic hot rodding techniques.  Sooo....if GM unleashes stuff like they say they are going to, then definitely that supercharged assisted Lighting from the Dearborn group are going to think they are just playing with sparklers.

All Marketing!

Like the LS1 Camaro's rated at 305 and the 'Vette rated at 345.  Yet for some reason, the Camaro and 'Vette are within 10 rwhp on most chassis dynos.

Most dyno 300-310 rwhp stock.  Given a 20% drivetrain loss, that makes 375-388 at the flywheel.  20% is generally accepted as the drivetrain loss in an auto Camaro, with 15-17% for manuals.

Given a 15% drivetrain loss, that is 353-365 rwhp!!

My guess is, the same thing is going on in the truck divisions.

also something i found interested and this may sound stupid, but the cadillac escalade is only rated at 285 horsepower on the 2wd model, but is bumped up to 345 horsepower on their all-wheel drive model according to their website.

Ben

this is because with the 2WD models, the 5.3L is used, instead of the 6L
