no prob...Bi-Xenon would be both low and high beams. there is a cutoff shield infront of the beam while no power is applied to a small solenoid, when power is applied the shield moves down and gives the "full high beam effect". So in essence, the shield is kinda like a shutter... Thats also how projectors are known for their sharp "cutoff" lines.

In case you're curious why the shield is on the bottom part, the lens is what inverts the image and gives that sharp appearance of the cutoff shield (the part you can see on the wall)

If you chose not to wire them up, they still work as low beams.

Cool! So you would end up with two high beams, the OEM and the projector would be at full power with no cut-off.

So I just installed the Spencer HID low beam/fog HID kit. If I choose to do this does anyone know if I can just buy H1 bulbs with a pigtail and use me existing ballast? In the alternative, are there projectors that accept the 9005 bulbs that I have. I looked around but couldn't find anything.

I'm assuming you mean my crappy camera and my crappy ability to take good night shots... Trust me, in person its 1000x better

Exactly, if they look that good on those pictures, that means I can set a really high expectation...thanks for the info!

Herkdriver, looks like you have done extensive excavation of the silverado headlights in rout to your finished project. Do you have any idea where the mounting points are for the piece in this picture? This is a photo I found on the net, with no info on how to get it out. I have my lights open and am considering painting this piece. Thanks.

no prob...best I can tell, its 3 tabs along the top, and 2 along the bottom... plus the 4 clips on the oem side reflectors. but it looks like just those 5 tabs holding the chrome piece to the plastic housing. They're in fairly tough to reach places, so I'm not sure how you would go about removing them.

why not just mask of the rest of the plastic and paint instead of trying to disassemble?

DO NOT mask off the "chrome." Even the best painter's tape will peel it off the reflector. Its fairly easy to get that shroud off. I'd tell you how but its been probably two years since I've done it and can't remember how exactly.

The retrofit looks very nice. I'll have to see about replacing the projectors in my aftermarkets with a set.

which part are you talking about?

I was saying cover the plastic outer (the black plastic housing and whats left of the clear lens) then paint the entire interior assembly, instead of removing it to just paint it.

Thanks for the compliment; I do like these little projectors a lot...makes the backroad driving much safer! I'd recommend them to anyone looking for a suitable upgrade; granted I didnt try the HID in the reflector so I can't comment on that.

Huh, thanks hurkdriver. Sure would be nice to be able to get the piece out. I appreciate your help. If you get around to it, or remember...do you know if the back of the housing indicates where the clips and fastening points are. If so a guy could drill the spots out, remove the piece, and then just use an adhesive to remount it.

Thanks again.

looks like the mounting points are little black plastic nipples, about 1/4" wide. there are 5 on the back of the housing, which correlates with the 5 points discussed previously.

my guess would be to start drilling there...

Cool herkdriver, that gives me a great starting point.

My plan is a quad retro with the mini projector. And depending on how easy said piece comes out, maybe that piece will be blacked out...my truck is the same color as yours.

Thanks again!
