Windshield Eyebrow Tint

Recommended Posts

Had to change windshield today b/c of crack. After install, I went to go have brow tint replaced across the top.. get home and see this:

eyebrow.jpg

The edge of my windshield has those little dots which tint won't stick to! I'm pretty sure my factory glass didn't have this b/c the first brow tint i got didn't have these horrible shiny lines!

Can anyone verify this? Factory glass has dots all the way around or hard edge?

Sadly I doubt the glass place is gonna pull this one & give me a new one if I'm correct...

it can go away, depends on the tinter, and installation. I use elmers glue around the dot matrix, some people paint it black and tint inside of it. The Elmers glue does hold up (the blue gel) without any problems, and if it ever needs to come off, a razor blade will take it off without any problem.

As for the glass, if it is a cheap replacement like (China glass) they typically have those dots, you have every right to ask for OEM glass, if insurance covers the glass replacement then you can ask for it before install, if you pay for it out of pocket it will be more expensive.

I have the oem wind-shield replaced in my truck back in the fall (rock chip turned into a massive crack, and with the yearly safety check.......).

Anyway, they ordered the wrong glass in that it came with the tint already (my original didn't have the tint). I prefer the tint.

the glass does have those small dots on the edge, but you can see where the tint is cleanly integrated with the glass. I don't think this is an oem wind-shield as it only cost $450 installed.

When i installed my eyebrow tint I kind of had that problem. If the installer had the tint going past the dot part you should be able to work it out. All you have to do is start on one end and rub along this area to get the air out and make the tint adhere to the glass.

Yours looks great but I'm wondering if I'm too late?

Tint was done Friday and truck was parked in the sun all weekend.

I have the dots on my '07 also. Been there for over a year. It wont hurt the tint one bit but, it is very annoying to see them. I knew this would be an issue ahead of time and tried working the tint in while it was still wet from the tint place. Just would not set in. No issues for me thus far.

Not sure if this helps or not. But I got my car tinted and there where two strips down the back glass where the the tint could not go because of the defroster rails on the edge. They suggested that I get electrical tape and put it in those spots so that It looked complete. Not sure if you can see those dots from the inside of the cab, but could try to do that. Will cover them up and might not notice them when the tape is on.

I havent tinted the windshield on my truck, but, with my last car there was the dot-matrix behind the rearview and across the top of the rear window. My tint guy, (who isnt cheap FYI) cut out the tint where it would normally cover the dot-matrix and then replaced it with black vinyl, he used a butane torch to heat the glass so that the vinyl would stick. It was seamless from the inside, and you could not see the dots from the outside, it was pure black like it had been painted.

Tried rubbing it in... not working at all. Tint is bone dry so too late for that.

Gonna try the vinyl/electrical tape and see how it looks... I'm a little hesitant to break out the black paint inside my truck! :lurk:

IIRC, my 09 did not have the dots and neither did the replacement I just put in. The only differences between the 2 were price $250 installed vs. $445 and all the aftermarket suppliers already have the top tinted. OEM did not.

I was just working on the truck and noticed that the replacement does indeed have a couple rows of dots not covered by the trim. I just never noticed them! Sorry for the mistake.

The audio installer I was just working with told me that he paints them solid with thick acrylic paint available at hobby stores.
