Tip On Stock Exhaust?

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking about adding a tip to my stock exhaust as after my body lift is more noticeable and its starting to bug me. I'd like to do a cat back system but that isn't in the budget. I'm not sure if I would want something like a 6" or so long tip just on the end after the last bend or it looks like I could cut it off before the bend and put something like a 18" tip so it would come out something like a 45 out the back. Has anyone else done this? Also, does anyone know the od of the stock exhaust? It looks a little bigger than 2.5" but smaller than 3", which seems like most tips are in one size or the other. Thanks

I have the GM Performance Exhaust Tip (17801929)on my stock exhaust. I love it, it fits the truck perfect. My Borla cat-back is coming tonight so I'll be taking it off this weekend.

These are the only pictures I have at work. I can get you a closer picture tonight after work.

At work and on the GM forum :):P

That actually looks really good, did you have to do any movement of the stock pipe location? I assume its just bolt on.

The new GM's have a pretty good stock exhaust location to just bolt something on, my 03 Denali is not so much, I'm getting ready to weld a tip up and a muffler, and i'm going to have to redo the exhaust behind it to make it look right, tuck it up a bit more than stock

As far as a tip goes, I personally like a larger Oval tip coming from a high angle that you can barely see from the back, but if you don't want to change the stock exhaust back there that might not be an option

Good luck, hope to see pics soon

I put a stainless steel tip on my truck, and the pipe was 3.5 that flared to a 4 inch outlet. I what to say that it was 18 inches long and I got it from Summit. On my truck (gasser 2500HD) the stock tip was 3.5, so I was able to "stretch" out the tip a little, and slip it over the stock exhaust and weld it in place. I am trying to remember if I had cut off the end a little also, but its been a little over 3 years since I did that, and I am curretly deployed so I can't go out and take a look at the truck. But I do have to say that I have had alot of guys say they like the way it looks and it looks clean.

It is 100% bolt on. I slid it over the tail pipe and bolted it down, that's it.

Stock tailpipe diameter is 2 3/4". Headpipe into stock muffler is 3" diameter. You would need a muffler with a 3" inlet and 2 3/4" outlet, preferably stainless steel.

i don't know about stainless but was going to go with flowmaster super 40, would it come with 3" in and 2 3/4 out? also is it center in center out or???

ok cool so i need a 3" center inlet and 2.75" offset outlet. I will see if they come with flowmaster like that. Might have to get it with a 3" outlet as well but nothing a muffler shop can't take care of. Anybody just replace the stock muffler with an aftermarket flowmaster or magnaflow? what sizes did you order?
