Recommended Posts

I have a 2009 GMC Sierra with the 5.3 Liter and I was going to install the new K&N air intake(part # 63-3070) on it.Has anyone put one on thier truck and if so how did it sound and did you feel much difference in the performance. As well I'm in the market for a exhaust,I was going to cut out the stock muffler and welding in a new one.Any info would be great.

K&N- got the stock box filter bc the evaporation sensors, etc may act up if you put the external from my understanding from GM Friday. I put it in for other reasons but this was a new one. I also took out the stock air box and replaced it with a straight through deal.

As for exhaust, I had a flowmaster on my Titan, this Silvie has a magnaflow and it sounds SOOOOOO MUCH CLEANER! Plus its not hollow sounding and just plain loud, unless that's what you want. When I get into it, you def hear it. Otherwise, idling in the front of the house, its mellow.

I'll post videos later so you can hear...

My '09 came with a Magnaflow system and it sounds great. On the '02 I had I put a Flowmaster system on it and other than being just a little louder it sounded just as good.

As for the K&N 63-3070, I just installed it in Wednesday (4-21-10). It seems to have a quicker throttle response and seems to have better acceleration. No dyno runs to back those statements up, so it could just be me wanting it to be a difference because I just spent $315 on it. I do really think it improved both however.

BTW ... don't believe the NO DRILLING required BS ... you have just one hole to drill but it's a 5/8" hole ... I don't wrench everyday so the biggest drill bit I had was a 1/2" ... wish I would've know before I had the stock intake off ... easy install I thought

Might want to rethink the K&N. Their filtering capabilities are extremely poor. They allow all sorts of dirt to pass through.....directly into your engine. Do a search on the topic and see for yourself. I've also talked to other guys who said they installed the K&N FIPK and noticed a little bit of a 'bog' at off-idle acceleration. The paper element filters flow PLENTY of air to supply any demand your LSX truck engine could ask for......but actually filters 10X's better.

I'm not sure that's entirely true. I ran a K&N filter (cone type) on my last truck and did not have any issues with dirt on the MAF or on the interior lip looking thing between cleanings either brand new or when I cleaned and oiled them myself. The main reason (in my book) to get a cold air intake is to allow your truck to breath better. This will help create some HP and give you improved throttle response time (as this gent pointed out) and make your truck work a bit better. It will also help you get back some MPG's with larger or heaver tires installed.

HTH.

I agree fully, I have had one on my pickup since it had had about 20k on it, now it has 102,386 miles on it and still runs like a bat out of hell, when you push the magic pedal that is! I did have to replace the maf once, but that was because I was stupid and tried to port the thing myself. Never take advice from the people telling you to port your maf, maybe a descreen, but not a "port and polish" job!
