Newbie with a couple of questions

Recommended Posts

I have an 84 GMC 1/2 ton. My first question is would I go here at the classic forum or the light duty forum to ask questions about maintenance and stuff like that. My other question is if any of you know of any aftermarket companies that specialize in my gen. of pickups

First off, welcome to the forum.

As for your truck, I think if its a C10, it could go in here, but maybe there is more traffic over there... I don't know..

For the "hard to get parts" I order from LMC truck.  Go to www.lmctruck.com and get one of their catalogs.  I've had really good luck with their stuff.  I think Paddocks also has a truck catalog.  Luckily for you, '84 C10 parts are still available from the dealership and replacement parts are plentiful at the local parts stores and junkyards:)....unlike my other car...

Sometimes this forum doesn't get to replies as fast as some other forums, but there are some real knowledgeable people on here, so try to be patient.  Good luck.

Welcome to the site 4x4fury.  Hope you like it.  :)

Like lowflyer mentioned, the classic forum doesn't seem to get a lot of traffic as the rest of the forums.  I guess there is just not as many members with "classics".  ???

But, feel free to post in what ever you need in the light duty forum as well.  :P

LMC, Year One, and Classic Industries all have catalogs with tons of factory parts.  As far as aftermarket company's, the only place I can think of off the top of my head would be Stylinconcepts.com .  I think they have some stuff, but not positive.  I guess it depends on what your looking for.

By the way, my dad drive's an '84 GMC 4x4 for his work truck.  :D

Welcome to the Forum!

There are several companies that offer parts for your truck, LMC is definitely a good one.  I was working on a list of suppliers that we plan to post here on GM-TC, but I have been working WAY too much lately and haven't put it together yet.  Still hope to get that one up and running.

As for where to post, you can post in either location.  most folks that visit the Classic Forum also visit the Light Duty Forum as well, so you're pretty much guaranteed an answer one way or the other.

Thanks for the lmc link. I got one of thier mags and orded an eldorblock (sp?) performer series carb its in right now and holy cow does it make a difference! Its only got a 305 but now I can lay rubber! Now I'm going to get the cat back exhaust kit and then I plan on cleaning up the motor and get some chrome goodies and a k&n filter. It'll be a while though because I'm still making payments on the truck and I only have a $5.75 hour job

That sucks!

When a part breaks, dont' think of it as a bad thing, think of it as a new found opportunity to upgrade    Never repair, upgrade instead.

Good luck! Let us know how those heads are.   Ive been tossing the idea of heads around but I figure I'll wait until i rebuild & upgrade the whole engine.  The heads would surely compliment my induction & exhuast system though!

A bunch of things came up and I couldn't afford the $600 heads so I got some rebuilt heads for $200. I got the intake manifold though and that helps a little bit but I have a question will a 305 intake manifold bolt right up to a 350. I heard that a 350 is just a bored out 305 but I wasn't sure. I'm going to swap out the 305 with a rebuilt 350 this summer and I dont really want to spend another $500 pus on mods again.

Other things I've done since my last visit are put in a cheap $135 sony cd player, put in black carpet painted the dash black, but blue lights in the instrument cluster, put a "new" bench seat in out of a suburban, and tinted the windows. I just have a couple of things left to paint in the interior then I'm going to get some billet interior pieces, then get all the body work done, and paint it black.

Nearly all parts interchange between 305 and 350 Chevys, including intake manifolds.  About the only parts that you'll have trouble with are heads, and that is only because of combustion chamber and piston size and clearance.  Intakes, headers, cams, distributors, water pumps, etc all interchange, so be sure to buy some hot goodies for that 305 so you'll already have em when you get your 350!!
